A shocking scandal has unfolded that links a world famous supermodel to Blood Diamonds and alleged she used flirtation to extort them from a corrupt national political official.
Hollywood Actress Mia Farrow and Supermodel Naomi Campbell have both given testimony about Blood Diamonds at a bone chilling war crimes trial in Africa.
It's no Hollywood movie script, but the story sure sounds like one. The two celebrities testified against the alleged criminal, but Farrow's testimony tore at Campbell's claim she did not know the history behind diamonds she allegedly received as gifts from a Liberian dictator.
Green Celebrity News says Farrow is the ex-wife of actor Woody Allen. "The two split in a high profile divorce after Allen left Farrow for one of their foster children, a young Asian girl with whom he was having an affair..." says the online gossip website.
Campbell has been a cover girl and model for years, and recently helped sponsor a limited edition Lotus sports car that will be sold to benefit charity. She has had a longstanding affiliation with Victoria's Secret.
ABC news reports:
Mia Farrow disputed the supermodel's claim under oath that she did not know where the gift of "blood diamonds" had come from. White added detail to Farrow's story, saying that Campbell had been seated next to Taylor at the dinner, had flirted with him, was in communication with his representatives, and was expecting the gift of diamonds when it arrived.
"Naomi was very excited and said, 'Oh, he's going to give me some diamonds,' " claimed White. She said Taylor and Campbell were being "charming" to each other at the dinner. "Naomi I think was flirting with him and he was flirting back."
Farrow's testimony was corroborated by another witness.
While neither woman's remarks were good for Taylor, Farrow's testimony about Campbell makes her look less like a green celebrity and more like a person whose affections could be bought for a price.
The episode was a surreal interlude of glamor in a grim case focused on murder and mutilation in the jungles of West Africa says the Associated Press.
AP news reports:
Naomi Campbell flirted with Liberia's former president across the dinner table at Nelson Mandela's presidential mansion in 1997 and boasted the following morning that Charles Taylor had given her a huge diamond during the night, Mia Farrow and another witness testified at Taylor's war crimes trial Monday.
Prosecutors hope testimony from the actress-turned-human rights activist and from Campbell's estranged former modeling agent will help tie Taylor to the illicit "blood diamond" trade that fueled Sierra Leone's civil war. Both contradicted Campbell's account from the witness stand last week that she did not know the nature or value of what she had received.
Taylor says he is innocent of 11 war-crimes charges linked to allegations he supported rebels during Sierra Leone's vicious 11-year civil war, which ended in 2002 with an estimated 100,000 dead.
