How to help teachers and students in the classroom?

SMART Technologies features a new wireless electronic slate for the Mac platform. SMART Slate enables teachers and students to interact with digital lessons projected on a screen, interactive whiteboard, interactive display or interactive pen display from anywhere in the classroom. The wireless slate enables teachers and students to control on-screen learning applications, write and draw in digital ink, or open and view files. Its re-chargeable battery provides at least 24 hours of continuous use.

SMART Slate was developed with user feedback in mind: it has an improved ergonomics, recharges via USB connection, and supports 10 languages. Ergonomic improvements have made the SMART Slate smaller, lighter and easier to hold – it weighs 21 oz. (612 grams). Programmable buttons (to create shortcuts, for example) enable customization, and the battery-free, tethered pen provides smooth and accurate writing.

Priced at $ 349.00, the SMART Slate can be used with or without a SMART Board™ interactive whiteboard, and functions as stand-alone with computers and projectors.

What does fine Italian Merino wool has to do with Macworld?

If you live, work or play in cold weather, you would know that it’s almost impossible to use ordinary gloves on touch-screen devices, requiring us to simply take the gloves off. How would you make a call or check emails on your iPhone, or use your iPod touch, without getting frozen fingers?

Meet Dots, ‘Made in the USA’ gloves that feature little conductive dots on three fingertips, letting users tap, pinch, scroll, and type, while keeping the gloves on. Priced from $15 to $25, they look like ordinary lightweight gloves. Knitted from Italian Merino wool, a natural and non-toxic material, and using a conductive yarn for the dots instead of metal – Dots is lauching two new knit models for iPhones at Macworld 2010.

Merino wool is durable, comfortable, and breathable, manages moisture better than cotton or synthetics, and is 100% natural. Merino also repels liquids, is flame retardant and controls odor build-up over time, which is a smelly issue with synthetics.
