The green movement’s slogan has long been “think global, act local” and there is no tastier way to eschew a large carbon footprint and support your local green businesses than to buy produce from an Atlanta area farm.
Lucky for all of us, Atlanta is fertile with farms that have embraced a trend called Community Supported Agriculture (CSA). Farmers who embrace a CSA model allow consumers to buy a “share” in their crop for a specified period of time. The farmer gets much needed funds, and the consumer gets a weekly box of produce straight off the farm. Everybody wins!
Some farms deliver, or at least deliver to set points around the city, but others require you to visit the farm for your weekly produce. I recommend a trip out to the farm. Like a farmer’s market, you get to speak and chat with the farmer, but better than a farmer’s market, you get to see and tour the actual farm where your produce flourished. And remember, because you’ve bought a share in the farm, you are an investor. You share in the bounty if the crop is plentiful and the disappointment if the crop is bad. So put on your blue jeans and take advantage of the free tours that most CSA memberships include.
There are CSA farms all over the Metro Area. To find the nearest to you, visit these two websites:

I clicked on the link for Local Harvest and found over a dozen CSA's near my home. Who knew?
They're cropping up more and more every year. Let me know if you try it out!
