So he won't control the auto industry?
Today, some new developments in the GM and Chrysler bankruptcy made me wonder, does yes we can mean yes I can? I heard President Obama say in a press conference after GM was forced into bankruptcy that he, "doesn't want to be in the auto industry." Wow really people?
So many of my fellow dealers ponder this, A LOT. So many of my friends outside of the auto industry tell me, the President and his Automotive Task Force are SO GREAT. Who to believe is what I ponder. I will tell you this folks, our government and now we, are in the auto industry. All of us will be spending approximately $458,000 a day on keeping the President's plan on track; just the way he wants it. But it still appears to be OK for him to spend $20,000 bucks to take his wife out to dinner in New York City on our dime.
If Obama doesn't want to be in the auto industry, he does a bad job acting like it. He is already telling automakers what they need to build and gave a strong and stringent time line on when to get the job done. Sure I'm for hybrids and energy efficient cars but for a guy who says he won't take on Detroit, he should move the Oval Office there.
There is a small, and I mean very small, glimmer of hope for those poor Chrysler dealers who got the axe. Maybe one of the 340 motions that were denied by the bankruptcy judge may have to be overturned or in other words, reviewed.
Maybe, and I mean maybe, the new Chrysler will have to buy back their inventory from axed dealers. As of today, the news in Pittsburgh, PA on KDKA television stated, "The Fiat sale is on-hold."
As I travel this week back to my hometown for my daughter's wedding and hope and pray this time Crosby and Malkin can win the Stanley Cup along with their Penquin teammates, I find it amusing that the President is off in another country most likely telling them, "Yes We Can!"
Maybe it's time to tell his puppet-string Senate backers that sometimes, "No You Can't!" We will see people. For now; however, I still think Yes We Can means Yes I Can!
