Pamela Cotten endorsement for 3rd Judicial Subcircuit of Cook County

Pamela Cotten, Democratic candidate for judge
for the 3rd Sub-Circuit of Cook County/.

It is with great honor that I endorse my friend, Pamela Cotten, for judge of the Cook County 3rd Judicial Subcircuit. Pamela is a resident of the Beverly community and is active in the community. Pamela possesses many personal qualities including, enthusiasm, tenacity, audacity, courage, intelligence, and possesses "an indomitable spirit." There is one more quality that Pamela will bring to the bench: hard work. Pamela, I promise you, will work with all of her being for the citizens of Cook County and make an excellent judge. I also believe that Pamela has a bright future in the judiciary.

Pamela promises that she will be "accessible" and that her fifteen years as a licensed attorney will come in quite handy on the bench. Pamela's twelve years as an attorney for the Chicago Housing Authority has prepared her to sit on the bench because of her experiences with Corporate Counseling, Litigation, and Housing Policy where she drafted contracts, represented the CHA in state and federal courts and resolved disputes with citizens. Pamela also served as a clerk for Appellate Court Judge William Cousins Jr. and Illinois Supreme Court Justice Charles E. Freeman, where she learned about the law hands-on from these brilliant legal scholars. Pamela possesses great writing skill which is a necessary perquisite for communication from the bench.

When I asked Pamela what she will bring to the bench, she said, "As a lawyer, I am a teacher in the community. I lecture on housing and domestic violence issues to community groups and CAPS meetings. As a judge, I want to continue to be a teacher on the bench and off the bench. In dispensing justice fairly, I want to provide those people who come before me with resources."

As Pamela continued, she emphasized her wish to be accessible even after she wins the election. "I don't want you to see me only when you are in trouble or when i need your vote. Therefore, as a judge, I will be accessible to you by providing legal perspectives on various topics in the community. My slogan is 'A Judge on the Bench, A Teacher in the Community.'"

Pamela Cotten taught kindergarten at St. Helena of the Cross Grade School, where she also attended grade school. Pamela notes that, if elected, she would be the first African-American elected from the Third Subcircuit.
