"New Media" elites get pass on violent rhetoric, unlike listeners

Classified ad from Warren Times Observer

Nearly every assassination for years past has been attributed to Anarchists. It is a wonder they were not charged with the killing of Lincoln, Garfield, Harrison and others. Indeed, President McKinley's death was certainly taxed to Anarchism.
Nevertheless, the assassin of McKinley--Leon Czolgosz--was a Republican who voted at Republican primaries (and no doubt was insane). These facts come to me by letter from Peter Witt, City Clerk of Cleveland while Tom L. Johnson was mayor. 'Czolgosz was not an Anarchist,' writes Mr. Witt. 'To charge that he was is simply ridiculous. In politics he was a Republican, and as such voted at the Republican primaries for several years. This fact I brought out shortly after the assassination by going over the election records. These records have since been destroyed, not because of what they contained, but to make room for later ones. His father and brother voted at the same primaries.'
This ought to forever silence the criminal charge that Anarchism was responsible for the assassination of McKinley. But it probably will not.
This kind of a lie dies hard.

A Warren, PA newspaper has apologized for running a classified ad which seems to call for the assassination of current US president, Barack Obama. While such violent rhetoric from the right-wing has become commonplace, due in large part to media consolidation given the green light by that 'liberal', Bill Clinton, it is not everyday that such statements lead to investigations, at least for the cable TV, talk radio and theocratic elites. These private-plane populists can get away with saying anything except cuss words. These media celebrities worship actor-president, Ronald Reagan, but are inexplicably all bent out of shape about celebrities and actors expressing their political opinions?

The Warren Times Observer, as part of their apology, reports that:

Upon realizing the mistake early Thursday morning, the ad was immediately discontinued and the identity of the person who placed the ad was turned over to Warren City Police as per newspaper policy. The local police department forwarded the information to federal authorities, as per department policy.

Did the person who took out this ad, think it would not be taken seriously? After all, cable news analyst, Liz Trotta only had to apologize for her desire to see the current president assassinated:

...and now we have what ... uh...some are reading as a suggestion that somebody knock off Osama ...uh..um..Obama ....well both if we could...

The investigation is not surprisingly, "classified", but perhaps the person who took it out thought they were exempt from these kinds of legal problems, like their heroes from the right-wing noise machine. The poor sap who placed this classified ad, hinting at a call for the assassination of Barack Obama, has likely spent years listening to various elite, right-wing pundits advocating all sorts of violent acts against public officials, private citizens, and entire religious and ethnic groups who disagree with them, with no legal repercussions.

Pat Robertson was able to get away with calling for nuclear weapons to be used against the State Department, twice. I also don't seem to recall him being taken into custody for that, or his call for the assassination of Hugo Chavez.

Maybe because she seems to usually skip dessert, Ann Coulter, has subsidized her trust fund by making statements like this for years? I dare you to tell that kind of 'joke'. The "partisan media" (of which Coulter and the rest are a part of) are not just an object of scorn and derision, but a legitimate military target, in a glorious enlightened future, according to cable TV military strategist(?) Ralph Peters:

Although it seems unthinkable now, future wars may require censorship, news blackouts and, ultimately, military attacks on the partisan media.

Even a CBS Sports "personality" is in on the act, although anyone involved with delivering the coma-inducing spectacle of televised golf deserves scrutiny right out of the gate. David Feherty, golf analyst(?) told D Magazine that the beloved "troops" would shoot Nancy Pelosi before "go-to" bogeyman, Osama bin Laden.

And who can forget this 1994 classic from G. Gordon Liddy, John "Maverick" McCain's terrorist buddy?

Now if the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms comes to disarm you and they are bearing arms, resist them with arms. Go for a head shot; they're going to be wearing bulletproof vests. ... Kill the sons of bitches
