Through out this season of American Idol, Adam Lambert was consistently better than Kris Allen. While I personally did not care for Adam's show-tunes nature and enjoyed Kris's charm, I can appreciate the fact that Adam was a much better singer.
Adam Lambert had drag photo's and a boyfriend, Kris Allen had "boy next door" charm and a blonde wife. They were as opposite as can be.
What was the reason that Kris won over Adam?
It has to do with a number of things, first off, Kris was the cute boy, he was the one that all of the girls loved and, even though he was married, they wanted to be with him. He had a charming appeal and sang like an angel. Adam was the rocker, he reminded people of the homo next door, he was not "boyfriend material". He was WAY more polarizing then Kris ever would be.
The next huge factor in Kris' win was the fact that Adam's fans expected he would prevail. Throughout the entire season everyone raved about Adam, said he was amazing and made him out to be more then he was. In my eyes, he had two performances that separated him from the Field: Tracks of my Tears, and Mad World.
Of course, I believe Kris should not have even been in the top 2, as Danny Gokey was a far better, and much more consistent performer, but that is beside the point, Kris did not perform one song that really pushed him above and beyond.
I think it comes down to one major factor: Adam was too gay for America. A number of pictures came out that showed him in drag and kissing on his boyfriend. America, well at least the backwoods version, likes their homos hidden and unknown. They don't like to see them in compromising situations. America was not ready for Adam Lambert, not to say that he will not have an amazing career like many of the runner-ups have had.
Kris Allen did not deserve the crown, and Adam Lambert wouldn't have gotten it no matter who he was up against.
One day, America will be ready for a drama ridden drag queen who likes men, but not today.

Idol is a singing competition. I was shocked every time Kris made it to another round. Adam was the clear winner, but America voted. This just another example of how screwed up our country is!!!! I don't think Kris Allen has the drive to be a star, performance-wise. I may have to eat my words, but it is Adam Lambert we'll be seeing on stage and screen.
Kris won due to his style of music. Sure, Adam has an amazing voice and is spot on all the time. However, in these days, the majority of America is not in to big hair vocals. That is just how it goes. And anyways, its probably better that Adam didnt win. Runner-ups in the past have been very successful and have a better opportunity not in the complete grasps of idoldom.

I totally AGREE with the title of this article. I am not disputing the fact that Kris can sing... he can! I think America chose a good singer... however I think they chose someone who will fade. I know that I will not buy Kris's album. Not that he is not good... but you can bet you dairy aire that the day Adam's comes out, I will be buying it!
The voters should have based it on who was consistent EVERY WEEK... whether you like the style of either of their music better, it should be based on CONSISTENCY!

Adam is amazing. When I saw him audition for the first time I told my girlfriend, "He is going to win." To be honest, I thought this up until the final 13, when Kris really started to catch my glimpse.
Adam has a vocal range that very few artists in the industry do, let alone American Idol contestants. He is exhillirating and entertaining, things that can make you quite the superstar.

I agree that as previously stated above, when it came down to the final, more 14-18 year-old girls could picture themselves with Kris rather than Adam. How else can you explain it? I agree that Adam lost the final because not only was he gay, but also because he acted gay. I mean, he wears nail polish and mascara, etc. That stuff doesn't go over well with Middle America. I think Adam should tour with Queen - he sounded good on We Are the Champions. It will be interesting to see what he does since glam rock is dead. I could imagine him in Vegas one day. Kris seems a little more contemporary while Adam is more...la cage aux folles.

Much more listenable to me than Adam. I wrote Adam off after that bizarre and BAD rendition of RIng of FIre! Adam's voice was MORE intense, he was more "dramatic" than Kris, however I think the reason he did not win was for the following reason: Most American Heterosexual men could not bring themselves to vote for a "man" wearing false eyelashes, lipstick and black fingernail polish. Lambert's sexuality in and of itself isn't the issue. But, that lifestyle also brings with it hyperemotion that seems to be very attractive to the gay community BUT NOT to the heterosexual community. Being an idol is more than the ability to sing. Many good singers were passed over during auditions for not having the right 'look'. Adam lost not because of singing but because a man putting his tongue in another man is a disgusting 'look' to almost everyone.

I was so sorry Adam didn't win, but not surprised. Gay or not, the young girls who vote will sit by the phone for hours and redial, while those of us middle aged and older often will not. That made a lot of difference. Like Old Lady said, it's better for Adam that he didn't win because now he can write his own story, sing his own music and he won't have to record that awful song Kara wrote. He's still my Idol!
