Yesterday saw the release of the first issue of Modern Warfare 2: Ghost, a new six-issue mini-series coinciding with Tuesday’s release of the wildly anticipated video game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. A first-person shooter developed by Infinity Ward and published by Activision, Modern Warfare 2 is the next installment in the popular Call of Duty franchise, and a direct sequel to Call of Duty 4.

Expanding upon the background of characters featured in the game, the comic focuses on Sergeant Simon Riley, codenamed Ghost, a member of an elite, multinational commando unit codenamed Task Force 141. While gamers are not in direct control of Ghost, he makes numerous appearances in the game, and is a central character involved with the progression of the storyline. Throughout the course of the comic published by Wildstorm, fans of the character will gain deeper insight into the mysteries surrounding the standout visual character from the game, and discover the origins of his skull decorated ski mask as well as the man behind it.

Written by Eisner Award-winning creator David Lapham, whose previous credits include his creator owned series Stray Bullets and a stint on Detective Comics, with art by Kevin West (Guardians of the Galaxy, Prime), the comic promises to retain the realistic experiences of warfare depicted in the game, as well as its distinct vision . Wildstorm has had success with other popular licensed video game properties such as World of Warcraft, Resident Evil, and Gears of War, and if sales bode well, fans can surely expect future installments in the Call of Duty series.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is available at all major video game retailers for the Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Microsoft Windows, and the comic can be purchased at your local comic book store.
