Brian K. Vaughn has confirmed earlier reports that he has left the creative team of Lost, where he served as a producer, writer, and executive story editor for the past two-and-a-half seasons. In a Lost podcast posted July 4th on DocArzt.com, series executive producer Damon Lindelof announced Vaughn has left the show for ‘”greener pastures”.
Vaughn rose to prominence in the comic industry in the early half of the decade becoming a fan-favorite creator, most notably on the titles Runaways from Marvel and Y: The Last Man from Vertigo. He is also a three-time Eisner Award winner, nabbing two in 2005 for Best Writer and Best New Series (along with artists Tony Harris and Tom Feister) for Ex Machina, and the Best Series honors in 2008 (along with Pia Guerra and Jose Marzan Jr.) for Y: The Last Man.
After Vaughn was brought into the Lost fold, he wrapped his run on Runaways, and ended Y, which had always been planned as a 60-issue finite series. His only current comic work is the political/superhero drama Ex Machina from Wildstorm, which will also be completing its story with issue #50.
No word on what Vaughn’s post-Lost plans are, but the focus presumably falls upon his numerous movie projects currently in the works. Both Ex Machina and Y are in various stages of development, as is his take on the King Arthur legend, Roundtable. Runaways is also rumored to be in development with a script by Vaughn at Marvel Studios.
Hopefully the shift in creative gears will also mean fans can expect a few new comic series from Vaughn, whose higher profile presence has been missed over the past few years.
