The Grand Canyon Association is a non-profit organization that works with the National Park Service to spread information about the Canyon. The provide books, guides, and other literature about the Grand Canyon, its history, and people linked to the Canyon in some way. The GCA provides backpacking and hiking classes, runs retail stores at Kolb Studio and the Canyon View Information Plaza (the Visitor Center in the Park), and a variety of other important activities to teach the general public more about Grand Canyon. One of their most popular programs is the Canyon Country Community Lecture Series.
The Canyon Country Community Lecture Series exists to take the rich interpretive themes of Grand Canyon National Park and the region directly to enthusiasts in nearby communities. Speakers include authorities on the rich natural and cultural history of Grand Canyon and the Colorado Plateau. the Program is a partnership between the Grand Canyon Association and other organizations like Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff, the Sharlot Hall Museum in Prescott, and the Foothills Branch Library in Glendale. These lectures take place in a variety of location to reach as wide audience. Locations for lectures include Cline Library in the NAU Campus, the Sharlot Hall Museum in Prescott, and the Shrine of the Ages in Grand Canyon Village in the National Park. Some of the Grand Canyon Association guest speakers include authors of many of their popular books and guides, rangers, scientists, geologists, wildlife biologists, and photographers with incredible stories to share. Many lectures are available on-line for viewing on YouTube.
