Bloomberg says $15 MetroCard increase may not be enough

New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg this afternoon defended the MTA Board's vote to increase the cost of a monthly MetroCard by $15 -- and that's putting it lightly.

Following the MTA Board's vote to move forward with public hearings on the increase, I asked Bloomberg about the vote.

"I hope it's enough!,"  the mayor retorted as he outlined the transit agency's fiscal woes.

When asked if he supported the increase, Bloomberg responded:

I didn't say I support it or didn't support it. There's no choice.  If they don't get another source of revenue the buses and subways will stop.  If that's what you'd prefer, that's the way to do it. 

Following a series of public hearings, the full MTA Board will vote on the matter in December.
