Over the coming Memorial Day weekend, Chicago will be the President's vacation spot. President Obama, his wife Michelle, and their two daughters Sasha and Malia, are planning a casual weekend with their friends in the Chicago area.
The family's visit to Chicago will not be merely recreational. President Obama will give an address in the Abraham Lincoln Cemetery located in Elwood, which is a town near Joliet.
President Barack Obama hasn't had much time to come back home with his family. In between passing health care and now dealing with the BP oil spill in the Gulf Coast, there just hasn't been an opportunity to return to the place he used to spend most of his time as a Senator for Illinois. Now that they have a break in the busy schedule of White House life, the Obamas are sure to be anxious to visit their old home on South Greenwood to enjoy a holiday weekend.

I am sure the residents of Arlington Cemetary won't mind...and very honorable of Obama to give an address in the Abraham Lincoln Cemetery located in Elwood. Since the ground at Arlington isn't more hallowed than anywhere else that soldiers who died for this country are buried.
Normally I couldn't agree more that the President should be at Arlington. But in this case, I know of at least one decorated vet who died tragically and is now buried at the cemetery in Elwood. I know his family appreciates the President coming to speak and I'm sure others do as well. And by the way, before you bash me as one of his puppets, I'm a republican and a veteran.
Instead of visiting Arlington cemetery, President Obama and the first lady will participate in a Memorial Day ceremony at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Ill., about 50 miles south of Chicago. Moreover, not every president has spent Memorial Day at Arlington. In 1983, President Reagan was at a summit meeting, and the deputy secretary of defense -- not even the veep! -- placed the wreath. Nine years later, President George H.W. Bush passed off the wreath to Vice President Dan Quayle (who had used family connections to get a slot in the National Guard during the days of the Vietnam War draft). And in 2007, Vice President Dick Cheney took on the wreath mission, while President George W. Bush was in Texas, perhaps clearing brush.
Thank you for pointing out the blatant hypocrisy RonJ.
Guys, it's not like he's totally blowing off all of Memorial Day. Why do you all have the impression that while the nation remembers it's fallen soldiers, he's just gonna put his feet up in some mansion by the Great Lakes with his family, drinking fizzy lemonade served to him by Joe the Plumber, his only motive to diss the military? I seriously doubt that he would voluntarily invoke that kind of bad PR on himself, especially with midterm elections already a major concern for his party. Besides, it's not the President, but those soldiers that fought and those who died fighting that should be the focus of the day. Get your panties out of a bunch and forget politics, just for one day.
Funny how we jump on him for every possible reason when we could do no better and would likely make bigger mistakes in his place. Please, if you must bitch, bitch about something IMPORTANT.
Let's support President Obama in Universal Education. Maybe then you people will learn how to spell...maybe.
I find most of these comments hilarious. Half of you can't spell, yet you are criticizing the president? Have a little respect. I agree with "PJK", it makes no difference where he pays his respects for the fallen soldiers. Maybe instead of scrutinizing every move the President makes, and complaining online--you should get up and rally for the change you want to see in this country.
I wonder just how many people honor fallen soliders with tasty BBQ instead of visiting a graveyard
