A new social network that began in August of 2008, TFCN (The Federal Contractor Network) signifies a sure-fire virtual remedy to modern-day acquisitions and procurement. With nonstop growth among Government business practitioners, TFCN is proving to be a revolutionary business model that may be reinvented among enterprise fortes around the globe.
Created by Alex George, an Information Security Expert, TFCN asserts exponential growth. A societal archetype in embryonic stages - perhaps even a Meme - TFCN proffers a group of professionals previously not known for embracing significant shifts in the conduct of day-to-day business. The Federal Sector, often a closed-loop community, is leaping forward by virtual light-years through their embrasure of this word-of-mouth 'babe in the woods' rapid-movement network. An exceptional compliment to Alex, as the TFCN creator, is extended by everyone on the network, and his vision doesn't stop there - the next iteration is to reach persuade corporate 'big boys' to join in the mobile evolution as well.
Driving in the direction of another LinkedIn or Facebook, TFCN's Ning Environment delivers more extensible features than its predecessors. TFCN members are able-bodied and active participants who deploy their business use case sensibilities while mincing them with light doses of communal creativity, which is whipping up this new hybrid standard that conjoins MySpace entertainment functionality, with overarching seriousness of 'real business conducted in real-time.'
TFCN features applications and themes for members to establish a sense of individuality while demonstrating subject matter expertise (SME) in their skill sets. Blogs are posted daily that demonstrate a breadth and depth of federal sector comprehensions, and cover topics such as::
- Business intelligence acuity and future trends as accelerators
- Reinventing the Workforce - The Virtual Workforce (VW) Community
- How to Get A Government Contract (Part 1) by Jim Hart
- The 21st Centrist and Environmental Salvation
- Incentives for Proposal Management and Oversight
- Washington DC TFCN Happy Hour (Non-alcoholic too!) & Social Club
- The Intelligence Community Directives (ICDs) are coming
- Her First Day "On the Sales Firing Line" - Eileen Kent Goes to Washington

One of TFCN's neatest features is that Federal Contractors unite not only within the Washington, D.C., corridor – also from across the nation and internationally as well. There are 87 "distinctly active" participant groups, with daily bustle that includes members' questions, answers and data points. These groups are evolving into in-the-moment teaming associations where partnerships, joint ventures, and independent contracts are being achieved; TFCN groups as of today include:
Whether Mr. George realizes it or not – his new venture just may set a universal stage among federal business participants. Members' ability to reach individuals and businesses that they would have never had an opportunity to know or hear about previously, serves as an inherent value-add in this gem of a social network.
And, there is even a Metropolitan Washington TFCN Social Group and sister TFCN Meetup Social Group empowering an offline presence where the business gavel is dropped in order to enjoy fun in the sun; whether at the beach or on the slopes. The concept of arranging event times and locations, where like minds can enjoy their down time and still share a somewhat common ideology of life, is good for the TCFN membership. So in the not too distant future, we may just see a few thousand TFCN members converge at a local beach or amusement park, along with their friends and families, who will feel a sense of TFCN member community in the neighborhood of life.
