Touched by an Angel Collections Now on DVD

On Tuesday, November 10, the beloved Christian television series "Touched by an Angel" starring Roma Downey, Della Reese, and John Dye was released on DVD. "Touched by an Angel" ran for nine seasons between 1994 and 2003 and was one of the highest rated shows on the CBS network featuring well-known guest stars like Randy Travis.

The series executive producer (and a writer for the show) was Martha Williamson, a Christian writer and producer who wanted to create a life-affirming series based heavily on non-denominational Christian concepts (Wikipedia).

Touched by an Angel Synopsis

In the "Touched by an Angel" series, angels were sent to Earth to inspire people who were at a crossroads in their lives. Monica (Roma Downey), was an angel just beginning her earthly assignments. She reported to and worked with Tess (Della Reese), her wise and compassionate supervisor. They were joined by Andrew (John Dye), the gentle Angel of Death who often helped Monica and Tess out as a caseworker on various assignments.

The inspirational "Touched by an Angel" stories were based upon the temptations, hardships and sorrows that effect all of us: grief, fear, loneliness, anger, addiction. The angels never offered a quick fix, but always helped the struggling humans work through their situation while delivering a message of hope, faith, truth, and love.

Touched by an Angel Inspirational Collection

Now just in time for the holidays, Touched By An Angel: Inspiration Collection – Hope and Holiday is arriving on DVD. Each DVD contains four episodes on the same theme. Hope and Holiday are available now and Faith and Love, will be released near the end of January, 2010.

Randy Travis in Three Holiday Episodes

The DVDs are hosted by Martha Williamson who shares insight into each collection. Three of the four Touched by and Angel: Holiday DVDs feature Nashville country/gospel recording artist Randy Travis.

While the DVDs are not high def and don't compare in film quality to movies and television programs shot today, the quality of the story more than makes up for any technological flaws. In fact, the 1990s television quality added to the nostalgia as viewing the DVDs was a great deal like watching the series on TV without commercials.

The DVDs should appeal to fans of family-friendly shows like the Complete Love Comes Softly Collection and "Little House on the Prairie." If you are looking for a nostalgic, faith-based holiday viewing experience, I highly recommend the Touched by an Angel Inspiration Collection: Holiday.

I absolutely loved this show! There is one episode in particular that I quote quite often that deals with a man's doubting God answers prayers, to which Della Reese as Tess replies, "God does answer prayers, it just may not be the answer you wanted." Back when the show was still in production, I was friends with one of the show's video editors and was lucky enough to visit the set in Utah and meet the three primary cast members of Reese, Downey and Dye. To this day, I still have the photo signed by all three hanging in my den!
Guess I know what I'm asking for for Christmas!

I loved Touched by an Angel when it was on the air, and the Randy Travis episodes were my favorites. Those, and the one where Tess says, "If you're praying for rain, bring an umbrella."

    Hey,

Thanks for the comments, everyone. Kelly, the Randy Travis episodes are in the "Holiday" collection DVD which is probably available places you buy DVDs and online.
