Three days after the devastating earthquake hit Haiti, Michael W. Smith had a melody and lyrics running through his head. He had not been able to turn away from the terrible images and asked himself what he could do to help.Today, according to various Twitter reports, Smith recorded a song for Haiti with over 40 friends from the gospel music community, including Vince Gill, Amy Grant, and Wynonna Judd.

On the 18th, as reported in Michael W. Smith, Cindy Morgan, and David Mullen write a song for Haiti, Smith already had a video up of his song writing efforts with Cindy Morgan, and David Mullen. Smith tweeted, "Such a great day writing a song for Haiti with David Mullen and Cindy Morgan. Cutting the track tomorrow. Check out some footage on my site."
Michael W. Smith Joins Benefit Concert for Haiti
A few days later, Smith was involved in a benefit concert for Haiti with Nicole C. Mullen, Plumb, Tommy Sims, Breith and other artists at The Factory in Franklin.

Today, 15 days after the earthquake tore Haiti apart, another survivor - a teenage girl - was rescued from the rubble, while in Nashville a star-studded group of Christian artists were lending their voices to Smith's new song. More than 40 gospel artists including Vince Gill, Amy Grant, Wynonna Judd, Brandon Heath, Melinda Doolittle, Natalie Grant, Katinas, Steven Curtis Chapman, Jasmine, and American Idol alumni Chris Sligh and Phil Stacey along with students from New Hope Academy -- were joining Smith and Mullen to record the benefit song for Haiti today.
Come Together/We Are One
At first the song was referred to simply as the "Haiti Relief Song." David Mullen posted on Twitter earlier today, "I helped write it but we are unsure what to call it." As the day and recording progressed, the song became tentatively titled "Come Together/We Are One." Everything needed to records the the song has been donated, and alll of the proceeds from the song - whatever it ends up being called - will go to benefit the earthquake victims in Haiti.

"You would hope people would respond to something like this, you know, even if the song was horrible, even if it's horrible, they'd buy it because they know every penny is going to Haiti," Michael W. Smith told the Tennessean today.
More Nashville Benefit Concerts for Haiti
Tonight there is a concert for Haiti with Jonny Lang, Marc Broussard, Tommy Sims called Healing Haiti 1 Song @ a Time at 12th and Porter. On January 28, there will be another Haiti Relief Benefit Concert with Jaci Velasquez, JoDee Messina, Legacy Five in Franklin.
