What is the Hillywood Show and why were they at the Nashville Twilight Convention?
As reported in Twilight Convention heats Nashville up with Peter Facinelli and Gil Birmingham (with slideshow), one of the nice surprises of the Official Twilight Convention in Nashville was discovering the Hillywood Show and their delightful cast, who act as hosts for the Twilight Conventions. While at first I wasn't very excited about seeing the Hillywood show, after watching the clever New Moon parody, I wanted to find out more. I introduced myself to Hannah Hindi and asked her if I could interview her for the Examiner.
Hannah is 1/2 of the Hillywood team along with her younger sister, Hilly Hindi. They do use other talent who do a great job of impersonating Twilight cast members and performing as back-up dancers, but Hillywood is Hilly and Hannah... and one camera. Hannah told me they were not familiar with the Twilight books and movies when some friends took them to see the first movie and suggested that Hillywood do a parody. "We had no idea what Twilight was at all! Once we saw the movie, we were inspired to create something that the fans would like."
While it can take up to five months to prepare shoot and edit a Hillywood show, not much goes into actual show rehearsals. "We simply practice our impersonations alone and by ourselves," Hannah claimed saying they like to keep things fresh when they shoot the scenes.
When the Hindi sisters discovered a friend, Adam Malin (co-founder of Creation Entertainment), was working on the Twilight conventions, they sent him a copy of the Twilight Hillywood Show and said he was welcome to show it. Instead the girls were asked to host the convention, and the rest is Hillywood history.
The Hindi sisters have had the opportunity to meet most of the Twilight cast, and Hannah had especially nice thing to say about Peter Facinelli, who appeared with them in Nashville. "Peter is very down to earth and is one of the most genuine people we have met."
Both young women trained as professional dancers, and they underwrite much of the Hillywood Show teaching dance classes. Hilly and Hannah star in the productions along with other cast as needed. Hannah does the makeup and Hilly remixes all the music and edits the video on her Mac. "We try to fit the feel of the songs to the theme of the video," Hannah said. After seeing their show, done to pop music with slick costuming and tight dance moves (and some tight costumes), it came as a pleasant surprise to visit their website and discover the girls grew up performing in church and have a scripture verse posted on the main page of the Hillywood Show website.
"We actually participated in many Christmas and Easter plays at church," Hannah stated. While the Hindis don't think that Twilight has a moral and is "just a good love story," Hannah added, "The devotion that Jacob has toward Bella is loyal attribute that Christ wants us all to have toward the ones we love."
When asked if their faith has any effect on the Hillywood Show, Hannah replied, "Yes, absolutely! There can still be plenty of entertainment and keep things wholesome and clean. Our parents have raised us since we were small children in the ways of the Lord and we always want to please Him first in all we do."
Looking back at that first Twilight convention and the doors it opened for the Hillywood Show, Hannah Hindi stated simply, "We are so grateful!"
