New Google Wave App for iPhone, now with push notification

Google Wave iPhone App Waveboard
Waveboard 2, with Push!

A new version of an iPhone app was finally approved this afternoon by the Apple store that will help  people realize a small additional bit of the promise of Wave.

Right now one of the biggest problems with Wave is that it essentially becomes yet another chore for a lot of people. They know they have an inbox in Wave, but they go check it and nothing's there and then a week goes by and the finally remember to go check it and they find they have 12 unread waves.

If people are going to participate in a real-time mode of communication, they should know when a message in a wave they are following is updated, even if they are on the road. Now they can.

German coder Dirk Holtwick just told Examiner.com that he got approval from the Apple store about an hour ago for his Waveboard 2 application for the iPhone. (That link goes directly to the iPhone store. Here's the link to Dirk's page about the Waveboard desktop application, as well as the iPhone App.)

Here's an 18-second video to show you how easy it is:

Even with this native iPhone App, Wave is still slow, buggy, and a bit chaotic, but Wave is in a developer preview so it's not supposed to be pretty. With each step like this, however, we get a bit closer to the day when regular people will choose to use Wave to manage complicated communications.
