Zhu Zhu Pets are the must-have item of the 2009 holiday shopping season.
Retail stores all over the country are selling out of the fuzzy hamster toys, which make teeth-brushing sounds in the bathroom and sleeping noises in the bedroom. They also squeak when petted on the nose.
The toys are made by Cepia LLC, a small company based near St. Louis. Cepia is struggling to keep up with the demand for the Zhu Zhu Pets, which seems akin to previous crazes for Tickle Me Elmo and Cabbage Patch Kids.
A review of Google Trends shows the incredible surge in search traffic for Zhu Zhu Pets and Cepia this year. Click here and here to see graphs showing those spikes.
The Zhu Zhu Pets retail for just $10 each, but the demand is pushing prices up far beyond that.

This educational product is sweeping the country. It's called the TickleMe Plant and its a real houseplant that Moves when you Tickle It. The leaves close and even the branches droop when Tickled.

I checked out that tickleMe plant.. those are weeds.. we have that all over the place here in Hawaii.. we call it sleeping grass. I can't believe someone is packaging and selling weeds at $50 a pop!!

Hi Bill, you're right about people having trouble finding Zhu Zhu Pets especially for the retail price.
I ran into a great site called Hot A-Z Alert which notifies you when the hottest holiday items and deals are back in stock at the lowest price. It checks Amazons inventory multiple times every minute and sounds an alarm when the item is available. Check it out at www.hotazalert.com
If it open Toysrus at 6am on black friday, people will be lining up at 5:00am
or much earlier to get a zhuzhupet, for me is not worth it, however i will get it
from Amazon.com at retail price, how? simple, i will use this tool FrontLineGrabber
to let it monitor Amazon so
when the zhu zhu pet becomes available again in-stock at Retail price it will let
me know with an alarm and i will be the first one to buy it.
i found zhuzhu pets @ my local target for retail (less than 10 bucks). SCORE :)

I am telling my 7 year old to wait till the price drops to $10, at the same time, he can just play the online zhu zhu games and learn more about each of the pet and decide which one or two to buy at zhuzhufamily.com Patience is a virtue!
