Burka Barbie is all the rage

Burka Barbie is all the rage.

Barbie, Mattel's famous doll, is celebrating her 50th anniversary this year.

As part of that celebration, reports the United Kingdom's Daily Mail, a charity auction is being held this weekend in Florence, Italy, that features Barbie wearning a Burka.

A Burka is the forced attire of many Islamic women. It's viewed in western cultures as oppressive to women.

The Burka Barbies are the creation of Italian designer Eliana Lorena.

Proceeds from the auction are going to the group Save the Children, which will help children affected by conflict throughout the world.

Burka Barbie is one of the hottest search terms right now on Google, showing that the doll has captured the world's imagination.

However many of the people who have posted comments on the Daily Mail story aren't thrilled about the concept of Burka Barbie.

By going to the muslim idea of society you help to destroy our own. The burka represent oppression, suppression, cruelty towards women and Sharia Law, which say if a woman bares even her ankles she can be stoned to death! Burka's are the total opposite of freedom and equality. Shame on these people.
