The MGA and Minnesota PGA present “Play Golf Minnesota” week, an effort to get Minnesotans to do just that: get out and play golf! From Monday, April 27th through Sunday, May 3rd, each day features a different theme, and you can enjoy related events at golf courses all over Minnesota.
Many of these events require advance tee times or other registration, so please call ahead to guarantee yourself a spot. See below for participating public golf courses in the metro area, and visit PlayGolfMinnesota.com for a full list of events at public and private courses.
Monday: Minnesota Colleges and Universities Day
Participating courses will be offering great school-related deals. Many offer discounts on greens fees or carts for wearing your school colors or showing your I.D. (or in the case of Fox Hollow, if you can sing your school song).
Tuesday: Senior Day
I’m not quite a senior yet, so in honor of Senior Day, I promise not to make any jokes about pull carts or headcovers with puffy-ball tassles on them. Instead, I'll just mention that senior golfers can enjoy discounts on greens fees, range balls… and yes, cart rentals.
Wednesday: Women’s Day
It’s golf’s version of “Ladies night.” Get your friends together and enjoy tremendous golf deals, special women-only lessons, deals on equipment and apparel, and even special wine & golf events at courses like Rush Creek in Maple Grove.
Thursday: Free Lesson Day
If you’ve always thought you might want a golf lesson but thought they were too expensive or intimidating, well then today is the day for you. Tons of area pros are offering everything from free clinics, to 20-minute personal lessons, to free clubfitting, all designed to get you playing better.
Friday: Get Fit for Golf Day
These days, you don’t have an excuse to be playing with clubs that are too long or shafts that are too stiff. So get to your local course to get fitted for clubs or demo the latest and greatest in equipment. And “getting fit” is also about getting in shape, so some courses are offering greens fee specials to those who want to get exercise by walking their favorite course.
Saturday: Play Golf Minnesota Day
Anything goes on Play Golf Minnesota Day: free range balls, a free logo golf ball, free clinics, free carts, discount greens fees – anything to get you out of the house and on to the course. And that can’t be a bad thing.
Sunday: Family Day
Tell your kids that there’s more to life than just the Xbox, and take them to the course for Family Day, where they’ll enjoy free golf with paying adults, and other special events.
So make sure to attend at least one of these great events, and Play Golf, Minnesota!
