December 9 -- You know Tiger Woods has hit the bottom when politicians want nothing to do with him.

With Woods’ alleged mistress count growing and his favorability rating falling faster than the golf great can drop his pants, a California legislator is ditching efforts to award Woods the Congressional Gold Medal, according to The Hill, a Capitol Hill rag.

“In light of the recent developments surrounding Tiger Woods and his family,” Rep. Joe Baca (D-CA) says in a statement, “I will not pursue legislation awarding him the Congressional Gold Medal this session."

Golf Caucus. Baca, the golf-crazy head of the Congressional Golf Caucus (who knew?) introduced a bill last March to award Woods the highest civilian honor Congress can offer.

"To provide for the award of a gold medal on behalf of the Congress to Tiger Woods,” the bill states, “in recognition of his service to the Nation in promoting excellence and good sportsmanship, and in breaking barriers with grace and dignity by showing that golf is a sport for all people."

Arnie’s Army. Baca pushed through an identical bill awarding the medal to golfing legend Arnold Palmer. President Obama signed the legislation in August.

The honor, which took Baca five years to accomplish, noted Palmer’s “service to the nation in promoting excellence and good sportsmanship in golf.” Sounds familiar. Palmer is one of more than 100 past recipients -- including George Washington and Frank Sinatra -- of the award.

The golf caucus reportedly sports more than 100 members, from both sides of the aisle, who “want to work to promote golf,” according to The (San Bernardino, CA) Sun. Baca’s press spokesperson was unavailable for comment.

For the record, no other lawmaker stepped up to co-sponsor the Woods bill, even before his extracurricular activities made worldwide headlines.

It’s not too difficult to figure out why a lawmaker might want to shy away from Woods at this time. Read about the latest Tiger Woods tidbits at Joslyn James up Tiger Woods’ alleged mistress count.

I heard that Arnie had as many women on the side (during his heyday, of course) as Tiger. Jack too. Sheesh.
