December 17 -- Tiger Woods is on the verge of a mental breakdown, as his wife, Elin Nordegren makes plans to divorce the newly anointed Associated Press Athlete of the Decade, according to The Sun.
As numerous rumors and reports speculate about when, not if, Nordegren will file for divorce from her philandering husband, Woods’ pals worry that he is close to “cracking up,” spending his days “alone watching cartoons and eating cereal,” according to the U.K.‘s News Group Newspapers publication.
Real concern. “There is real concern among his friends that he is dealing with the situation in a very unhealthy way,” the publication quotes “a source.”
NBA great and Woods’ chum, Charles Barkley, says he has tried to reach out to Woods since the golfer’s early-morning car crash on November 27. Barkley, says, however, that his friend changed his cell phone number, making it impossible for his buddies to contact him, according to several reports.
“I’ve been trying to get to him and can’t,” Barkley says, according to The Sun. “It’s very frustrating.”
If he had one message for Woods, Barkley says, it would be this: “Hey, man, we love you,” The Sun reports. “If you need anything, pick up the phone.”
Empire falls. For golf fans worldwide, the astounding fall from grace of the best golfer of perhaps any generation has been unbelievably swift, sad, disappointing, and nauseating.
As his previously clean-cut reputation takes daily hits and sponsors dump him or assess their continuing relationships with him, Woods and the world watch as his personal, professional, and business lives crumble.
Who’s next? Women by the score claim “affairs” with Woods, with no end to the allegations in sight. Now, recent reports link Woods' doctor with performance-enhancing drugs, indirectly tainting the 14-time PGA Tour major champion.
On a self-imposed hiatus from professional golf and holed up as a recluse somewhere, Woods is virtually his own hostage. And, despite the fact that he brought all of this on himself with his reckless and selfish behavior, it is dispiriting for some fans to picture a humiliated, despondent Tiger Woods slumped over in a darkened room, drooling gruel down his chin.
But his world now is what it is. Nordegren, for part, has no plans to stand by her man in the wake of allegations of serial cheating and Woods’ acknowledgement of his infidelity. Rumor has it, as well, that she will file for divorce after the holidays.

I agree. In his initial statement he said he wasn't acting consistently with his values. What he did shows he has absolutely no values whatsoever. All the talent in the world doesn't make you a good person. This is especially true in tiger's case. tiger deserves to hang his head in shame, never lifting it ever again.

Look, there is no excuse for what he did to his wife and I don't defend his actions but at the same time I don't want him to hurt himself. Tiger has enjoyed a life of luxury from a world that has put him on a pedestal from off the chart public opinion. This attracted the huge sponsorships. NOW...we find Tiger is human. Not just human, but much less than the average man in the moral department. Tiger has humiliated himself almost more than he humiliated his wife. This will hurt Tiger personally MORE than he's hurt his wife. He lives for this and now it's GONE. I honestly feel that if Tiger was to hurt himself I would NOT be surprised. Think about it, how many other woman or stories are still out there? Tiger knows whether or not more is to come and if there is more, he may not want to face it.
yes he did wrong and he will learn from his mistakes. but it's obvious he is still having issues from the passing of his Dad. In his darkest hour is when he as well as his wife need love and support from family and friends. and not hounding from the media. leave them alone and let them sort this out for themselves. My Dad, who was the greatest man I ever knew stood 6' 4" 235 pounds of pure MAN. He told me what a real man was and I'll never forget it.

My Dad served in World War II, Korea and Vietnam as a pilot and hero. A lot of people were fortunate enough to have a great set of parents and I was blessed to be so lucky. Tiger can never have that claim put on him now and that has to kill him.

If they are worried, and they are his friends, they should go to him. She is doing what she needs to do too. Maybe some of this does stem from the death of his father, but probably not all of it. I wouldn't be suprised to hear that Tiger has voluntarily admitted himself into an inpatient sexual addiction recovery program.
