With New York and New Jersey in the projected weekend path of Tropical Storm Danny, will Tiger Woods and the guys get to play the entire 72 holes of The Barclays golf tournament at Liberty National Golf Course?
The National Weather Service expects the tropical storm to bear down on New Jersey and other East Coast states as early as Saturday. NWS also believes the nasty weather may soon become Hurricane Danny.
Rain in Boston -- for a change. New England golfers as well had best be prepared to practice their putting indoors this weekend. Apparently, Boston golfers have not had enough soggy weather this summer.
Nevertheless, if projections for the storm are correct -- and the Weather Service notes that storm path estimates can change abruptly -- Danny will hit New York’s Long Island, Southern New England, and parts of Maine between Saturday and Sunday. The storm, packing maximum winds of 60 m.p.h. that may increase to 75 m.p.h., is currently moving northwest at 13 m.p.h. from the Bahamas.
PGA Tour officials are "keeping an eye" on the weather, according to a tour spokesperson. "But the Tour fully expects to complete 72 holes," the spokesperson adds in an e-mail message.
For now, Sunday looks to be the better day for Boston golfers. Weather.com projects a 90 percent chance of rain and thunder for Boston on Saturday, dropping to 40 percent and scattered thunderstorms for Sunday. Whether Danny reaches hurricane strength or not, The Barclays officials will likely have to deal with potentially heavy rains.
Tip for the day: You can take a drop, without penalty, from casual water anywhere on the golf course.
If Danny passes New Jersey by, you won’t want to miss a minute of the action at The Barclays. Check out Tiger Woods trails at Liberty National Golf Course for TV and Web coverage details.

This storm is not a hurricane and you should not call it one until the weather experts do or until it makes it to that status and this storm will not likely make it to hurricane strength as of now.
