Write back at you: Missing point on Biedrins, Rowell in China and Warriors' 'Bad-Boy defense'

Billy Owens: No light's out shooter

Haven’t got back to you guys in a while. So, I’m a little wound up …

LOCHMONSTER WROTE: At first I thought this Andris Biedrins story (Where is Nelson's creative edge?) was a joke piece, because this suggestion is not just out there (which is what Don Nelson strategies are) but also very stupid (which Nelson’s strategies are not).

You kind of need to have a semblance of an outside shot to play at the top, otherwise, every center will just leave Biedrins out there all by himself while they stand under the basket.

MS: Really, you need to have some semblance of an outside shot? What was Billy Owens as a point-forward … a knock-down shooter? Yeah, right?

Why don’t you tell me the difference between what a defender will do against Biedrins to what a defender is going to do against DeMarcus Nelson? Guess what? They’re both going to be left alone from 18-feet.

Lastly, I’m not asking Biedrins to become Steve Nash, I’m asking Biedrins to do all of the same things that Stephen Jackson is going to be asked to do. And I think he can do most of them.

Can Biedrins come down on a fastbreak and knock down an 18-footer? No. But he ain’t going to come down and turn it over, either.

Here’s another thing: I give Biedrins the same opportunity at breaking backcourt pressure with an opposing center on him as Stephen Jackson does with a small forward guarding  him.

News flash: Steve Nash a better shooter than Andris Biedrins

♦ ♦ DAVID WROTE: I noticed a video blog on the GSW website that Robert Rowell was in China with the team. Is this a team president’s chance to visit that country or is Rowell taking further steps into getting basketball knowledge as he may be looking for a GM at the end of the season?

MS: Rowell may very well be in the market for a new GM next season but don’t read anything into his going to China with the team.

Dozens of Warrior employees made this trip, from the Warrior girls to members of the marketing department to extended the basketball staff, etc. I’ve even heard former Warriors’ great Rick Barry is over there. So it’s a very comprehensive trip.

Brandan Wright; Better against the Bucks on Wednesday

♦ ♦ ♦ STEELE KORDESTRANI WROTE: This team is definitely underrated and impossible to predict, so it’s useless.

No one has any clue what will happen. But I think Nellie without an excellent point guard is going to adjust the game of basketball. Did you see the Portland game?

The defense was phenomenal, and everyone took turns handling the ball, including Andris and Brandan Wright. This team could be a dream.

MS: I love your optimism, I just don’t share it. I think the Warriors will be marginally better defensively this season.

I don’t think they’ll be an upper-half-of-the-league defensive team. And I think any defensive improvement will be more because of a slower style than a lock-down defense.

And you know what? I don’t really care if this year’s team is better defensively than last year’s team if it wins 12 fewer games.

Matt Matt Matt... if this team is REALLy better defensively, something tells me it won't translate to 12 fewer wins.

we lose some assists and gain some turnovers
but if we hold our opponents to less PPG and FG%, and while increase our steals, blocks, FTA, FG%, rebounds, I just don't see how it automatically translates into a horrible season. Baron Davis is not everything, especially to a master matchup-creator like Don Nelson.

I agree with you a lot. This team is not a good defensive team. I just can't see a team that Don Nelson coaches as "a good defensive" team. There are just too many bone head mistakes that this team makes. This team is just horrible when it comes to zones, both offensive and defensive. I don't see them making the playoffs or breaking 40 victories.

I'm starting to not care about this blog and your basketball takes.

um... baron was everything as far as the warriors were concerned. why? because in the NBA, the superstar is everything. i mean what the hell are you guys watching? why do you think Lebron can single handedly almost beat the Celtics and routinely thump out the Pistons?

i swear the Pistons beat the dysfunctional Lakers and everyone starts citing the exception instead of the rule.

btw, how can anyone w/ the nick "niners in 09" be taken seriously? that's about as likely as "raiders in 09"
