Chris Mullin: Last season with Warriors?
By the looks of things, it doesn’t appear as though the Warriors are going to extend the contract of executive vice president of basketball operations Chris Mullin.
Sure, there is an outside chance something could break, but if it was going to happen it probably would have happened by now.
Orlando Magic general manager Otis Smith was extended back in June. Coaches Doc Rivers, Mo Cheeks and Mike Woodson also already have received extensions.
As it is, Mullin will enter the 2008-09 season on the last year of his deal. Put it this way: If the Warriors don’t extend Mullin by the start of the regular season then there’s a reason they’re not extending him.

Warriors owner Chris Cohan and team president Robert Rowell
Perhaps, the Warriors are taking a wait-and-see approach … you know let the season begin to play out, take a look at how things are going and make an offer or not at some point.
That would be risky.
Think about it. It’s already setting up to be an extremely challenging year for the Warriors. They lost Baron Davis, and Monta Ellis is expected to be out at least a couple of months.
Did we mention the Warriors are very young, too?

Where does Don Nelson fit into the equation? Or does he?
In addition, you have Mullin on the last year of his deal. Head coach Don Nelson on the last year of his. Ditto for assistant general manager Pete D'Alessandro and all of the team’s assistant coaches.
You know how you heard Mullin’s name whenever talk of a GM opening arose last year? Well, there would be more of that only there’d be more than just sniffing going on.
If owner Chris Cohan, the minority owners and president Robert Rowell (the only men above Mullin) aren’t going to bring Mully back, then what?
Seems like you’d have lots of job openings and lots of candidates.
But who would be making all those decisions?

Just a quickie on your Top 10 of All Time article a few days ago, I think Jordan broke Elgin Baylor's single game playoff scoring record against the Celtics in '84 (not sure on the year).
Anyways, keep up the great writing, cant wait for the GSW broadcasts this year.
