Warriors fans are already in playoff form

Three games into the season, Warriors fans are at it again

Before the season goes any deeper, it's time to once again recognize the loyalty and passion of Warriors fans.

Forget about Baron Davis' departure, Monta Ellis' injury or any front-office issues. Apparently, Warriors fans don't care all that much about that stuff.

They just want their basketball.

It took all of 15 minutes late last week for Warriors fans to gobble up approximately 2,000 tickets to a pair of upcoming games.

As part of the Warriors' Best Buy promotion, tickets were made available for $5 for this week's games against Denver and Memphis.

If you've been watching NBA's League Pass in recent nights, you've no doubt seen plenty of empty seats at arenas -- season-openers or not.

That's why you've got to tip your hat to Warriors fans.

Denver and Memphis aren't exactly two of the NBA's biggest draws. But they'll still have 18,000-plus at Oracle Arena this week for each of those games.

The Warriors are 1-2 and still trying to figure out a lot of things. Warriors fans, however, apparently are already in playoff form.

Thanks for the love & propers, Matt. With the rest of Bay Area sports, college and pro, in states of hopelessness if not downright putridness the W's are the one flickering candle in this winter of discontent. The spirit of "We Believe Spring '07" still echoes a year and a half later and hopefully will be a Sixth Man that inspires the young guys to surpass expectations this season.

Steinmetz, you should be tipping your cap asking for spare change that will go to Warriors loyal season ticket holders who saw the price of their tickets for this season increased A LEAGUE HIGH - OVER +23%!! The league average was only +2.8%.

Hows that for a slap in the face? But you give kudos to the Warriors for offering $5 promotion while season ticket holders paid 10x that for their tickets??? You still have your "Warriors" hat on when you write these columns, Matt?? Bottom line is that Rowell is a bean counter more concerned with the bottom line than winning.

Warriors fans are paying more for less. Other teams show sensitivity to their fans by freezing prices, whereas Warriors' management responds by INCREASING PRICES AND MOVING UP THE RENEWAL PERIOD TO JAN-FEB!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Keep up the good shilling (I mean work).

My bad Matt, the Warriors raised their season ticket prices by 25.3% not 23%.

    Phil,
I totally agree with you, as a season ticketholder I am outraged on the increase and the poor service we get as well. at the opener, one of the concession stands ran out of food and we are charged full price on preseason and not everything is open. I disagree that matt is a schill because writing about something of this nature is boring and not good blog material. we need to find a way to contact rob rowell directly and let him know how we feel

Phil: Do me a favor: Show me one time in this post where I give "Kudos" to the Warriors.

I give "Kudos" to the fans.

I've been going to plenty of half-empty arenas around the league a while now. And everytime I get back to Oakland for a Warriors game ... there they are 17,000 ... 18,000 ... whatever. They're always there.

    That's what I'm acknowledging.

I think it's pretty accurate to say that on balance Warriors fans support their team more than other teams support theirs.

    Is that being a homer?

Take Rowell to task, ask him how he feels about raising ticket prices during this economic downturn and why he wants to move up the renewal period again this year, I dare you.

And yes Matt, we're diehard basketball fans here in the bay and that's why we continue to support our team. That's very nice of you to give us a pat on the back. But this last price increase is a slap in the face to the most loyal customers. Tell your boy Rowell to get his act together or else next year he'll have to fill hella more seats with his $5 gimmick promotions.

Hello Phil, it's me, your mom. Please don't yell at that nice Mister Steinmetz. It's not his fault that I didn't hug you enough when you were little, turning you into a seething ball of hatred.

    Love,

    Mom

PS when are you getting paroled again?

Phil, yelling at Steinie for a ticket price increase is like yelling at Ronald McDonald for a burger price increase. Not only does it do no good, it proves to everyone in shouting distance that you are not the sharpest knife in the drawer...

    Go Warriors, and Go Steinie!

Not sure if this is the right venue or topic to vent, but why not. How come the Warriors/Comcast have games that are untelevised? I had to pony up and buy digital cable just to get the flippin' Comcast Plus channel (formerly FSN Plus Bay Area) to make sure I didn't miss any action. I can't afford to go to many games anyways, but at least I pay my cable bill. I can't think of one good reason why the Warriors can't have EVERY game televised. Give those to KICU 36 or something. /rant

I really wish the organization could reward the fans for their dedication. If they re-sign Jackson to that max deal they are talking about I will be very disappointed. Also having Nelson not develop the youth is also horrible. I truly do not see this team going anywhere ever and it sucks because the fans continue to go no matter what.
