Monta Ellis: "Chomping at the bit," says Nelson
Just going to try to skim the surface with some things tonight. ...
First, true story about the Monta Ellis video from the previous post.
And it's proof I have no idea with that thing. You'll notice that near the end of the clip, I followed Andris Biedrins with the camera. I should have followed Ellis.
You might see he begins to gather himself as the camera moves away from him.
Yes, he dunked.
More important, Warriors coach Don Nelson made it clear that Ellis is "chomping at the bit" to get back, but that the Warriors are holding him back at this point.
Said Nelson: "He wants to play and we're being very conservative. But he's getting close to getting a practice in. He feels he's ready. ... We want to make a good decision and not hurry him back too fast. We're holding him back more than anything."
Nelson all but confirmed that Ellis had been telling people close to him that he wanted to play back on Dec. 26, against Boston.
"There will be no rushing back," Nelson said. "If we had rushed him back he would have been playing two weeks ago. Because he wanted to play."
♦
Nelson said that he thought Jermareo Davidson had a solid first practice for the team.
I asked Nelson the difference between Davidson and Richard Hendrix, whom the Warriors waived.
"Hendrix is more of an inside player," Nelson said. "Davidson has the ability to shoot the jump shot and is a little longer. They both rebound. I don't know much about Davidson. This is the first time I've seen him but he's better than I thought he would be."
♦
Nelson also said rookie Anthony Randolph has had a nice little practice run. Nelson said early during the team's road trip that Randolph was going to be put "on ice" for a while.
"Randolph has had three good practices now, where's played hard and played pretty well," Nelson said.
Don't expect too much to change too soon. Nelson tempered that later by saying Randolph still wasn't quite NBA-ready.

Thats all good news, wow, I'm going to the Clipper game on 1/25, so that would be a good game for him to return...
Let him play!!!
Nice, I'm glad that he's almost ready to start practicing.
Jackson being out will actually help the Warriors solidify their options when he is in.
still waiting to hear about him though
When Monta comes back the warriors identity will be found: speed. I think the warriors have played like jack crap because they don't have an identity.
Matt, Nellie is simply never going to play winning basketball again, right? Its going to be all gimmicky crap from now until 3 years from now when his contract is up?
Keep beating the drum, this mad scientist stuff has got to go because its just Don Quixote stuff when you do not have the pieces to make it work and you ignore the conventional pieces in front of you.
This is just getting ridiculous. Warriors let go of Hendrix because he's more of an inside player while Davidson can shoot the jump shoot and is a little longer. Hmmmm.... let's do a quick check.
Inside Player - Andris Biedrins
Jump Shooters - Everybody else on the roster.
I guess Biedrins is being a diva and wants to be the only inside player on the team. Or Davidson has a silky smooth jumpshot that would rival that of Anthony Morrow. That's the only explanation, right?
And Matt, what's your take on the rumor that there is still bad blood between the Warriors and Monta?
If Nellie were given Duncan I bet he'd say he's an "inside" player and too limited in his shot selection. You'd expect more from a former Celtic.
Matt, any news on Azubuike? How's he doing with the flu?
Raptors get:
Wright, Maggott and Jackson
Warriors get:
Anthony Parker, Chris Bosh
Starting Five Next Year
Monta
Belli
Randolph
Bosh
Biedrins
Off the bench
Buike
Crawford
Turiaf
Morrow
Parker
Picking up Randolph's jersey at the scorers table when he checks in:
Kurz with CJs help (that is unless CJ throws it away like he does so often on the break)
Head Coach
Avery or Van Gundy (get a defensive mind)
Raptors would do it because they know Bosh won't resign and Jack and Maggott make considerably less than Bosh and O'neal (who will be coming off the books) plus they get a big (Wright) who has some potential on a team without Nelson as the coach.
Result, the best front line in the game and a top six team in the west and a soldout Oracle for two years.
Incredible how many posters think Richard Hendrix has NBA skills. He is built like an oak tree and plays like one. Lumbering, no hops, no quickness. Cutting him loose was about the only good decision the Ws have made lately.
Sure we could use toughness inside rather than a jump shooting front line player, but Hendrix was not the answer.
If he has medical clearance, and feels he's ready than what is the problem here? atleast let him practice with the team. hum.... with all the conspiracy theorise floating around, Matt whats the real story here? Also, TK has been writing alot lately on Ellis poor relationship with the front office, how he doesnt want to play for Rowell and Nelson run Warriors. of course hes still probably upset over how the warriors dealt with it, and before anyone says anything, yes its his fault. now having said that, I still think they went over board with all the reserve the right to termiate nonsense. So whats your take on this matter?
They need to let Monta play. Anything that takes minutes away from DLeague Watson needs to be done.
James Online has never seen Richard Hendrix play, at any level.
Not once.
Incredible, the buffoonery.
Without Monta, the Warriors don't get those 3 easy buckets each game that he used to create with steals or with his blazing speed on the break. Also, Jack is not a good jump shooter when covered, and Monta draws doubles (because you can't single a guy that fast) that free him up to shoot. Monta also can play a bit of defense, which is something the team lacks. That being said, I want them to tank the rest of the season (playoffs not likely) so they can win the Blake Griffin Sweepstakes.
Avery as Coach. I would like to see that.
Guys, Im sorry, I am tired of Nelson as well, but Randolph has not shown me anything in limited minutes.
Morrow is the best rookie on the team and deserves more minutes. In fact he deserves some of Maggette and Jacksons as well. He and CJ Watson are by far the best shooters.
By the way, Did Morrow foul out of the Utah game? If he did not foul out or get hurt, why was he taken out of the game after making 6 shots in a row?

Don Nelson=Mike Martz
Two coaches past their prime.
man, more drama queens.
Hendrix or Davidson does not matter in the grand scheme of things. it's a blip in warriors history like cherokee parks or rusty larue or ike diogu or dan langhi or kosta perovic or popeye jones or pob or croshere or hudson.....
It does not. But it just goes to show you a glimps of how the Warriors think, or at least Don Nelson.
Got something to say?
