Green Mary Keep on Turning...

Turning garbage into compost, that is.  Not that she (Mary Munat) and her dedicated group of dumpster divers at Green Mary (Windsor, California) don’t also provide numerous other eco-friendly services for small- to large-scale events such as the famous (or sometimes infamous) San Francisco Bay to Breakers race.  They do.

Diversion is not just watching Wheel of Fortune while trying to get your mind off your financial woes.

Vanna, may we have an “E”, as in Event Waste Diversion?  In other words, making sure that that nothing ends up in the landfill that couldn’t have been diverted away from it in the first place.

Not that waste is on a trash highway and some portions hang a right at the off-ramp to the dump, and other portions hang a left to some unknown place.  Green Mary ensures that what can be recycled, composted, and re-used, is exactly that.

Recycled, composted, and re-used.

Green Mary also provides Eco-Education and Earth Tips for event planners, and other green services such as:

  1. Management of dumpsters (i.e., ordering, placement, removal)
  2. Placement of water filtration systems to replace plastic water bottles
  3. Providing reusable flatware from their lending library for events up to 500 people, eliminating the use and disposal of plastic knives, forks, and spoons

You may even see Green Mary herself, diving into a garbage can to pull out that compostable container.

She is that serious about her business.

And after the event is over, when the hot dogs have been consumed and the beer has run out… Green Mary’s folks keep on burning.  Burning through plastic bags filled with event garbage.

As the song goes “Cleaned a lot of plates in Memphis”… well, this is not Tennessee, but Green Mary has certainly done her share of cleaning.  (Green-Mary.com, or 707-548-7582)
