Three flavors of Purely Decadent Non-Dairy Frozen Dessert
Gluten free ice cream isn’t necessarily hard to find. Many brands of ice cream such as Breyer’s, Blue Bunny, and Edy’s have a few simple flavors that do not contain gluten.
However, it is much harder to find non-dairy, gluten free ice-cream (also called non-dairy frozen desserts), especially if you have an allergy to soy. Thankfully, a wonderful company named Turtle Mountain has just the answer for people who need a casein (dairy) free, gluten free, and soy free ice cream.
Turtle Mountain is a privately owned natural foods company located in Eugene, Oregon. The company makes a line of creamy soy based ice creams called So Delicious. If you do not have a soy allergy, these products are wonderful!
Another line of ice cream from Turtle Mountain is the Purely Decadent Coconut Milk gluten free ice cream or non-dairy frozen desserts. I was thrilled to find that in Raleigh, you can find Turtle Mountain products at Whole Foods Market, Kroger, and Lowe’s Food Stores. (To find a more thorough list of stores, please click here.)
There are 7 flavors of Purely Decadent Coconut Milk Ice Cream. I have had the opportunity to try 3 flavors thus far:
- Mocha Almond Fudge: This was the first flavor I tasted and it is truly delicious. If you are a coffee fan, you will love the subtle mocha flavor mixed with bits of almonds and a swirl of fudge sauce. This ice cream has absolutely NO coconut flavor and is distinctive in taste and texture.
- Chocolate: A classic ice cream flavor. This Purely Decadent product has a slight hint of coconut flavor, but it does not detract from the creamy rich chocolate flavor. I loved this simple ice cream that is gluten free, dairy free, and soy free! The creamy composition and smooth taste is truly decadent.
- Cookie Dough: The chunks of chocolate chip cookie dough made from brown sugar, rice flour, chocolate chips, and a blend of natural oils, really make this flavor a huge hit. The chunks taste just like regular cookie dough. You slightly taste a hint of coconut in this ice cream, but it is barely noticeable next to the creamy texture and the delicious cookie dough! (This flavor does contain soya lecithin – an emulsifier.)

My gluten-intolerant son is just crazy about this ice cream! He loves the chocolate, and I'm a big fan of the vanilla bean flavor. Y-U-M!
Hi Francesca -- Your son has very good taste!! This ice cream is absolutely the BEST gluten free, casein free ice cream I've ever tasted, and it would really put regular ice cream to the test! The quality of the ingredients and the amazingly smooth texture are truly, truly decadent and delicious!! Of course now that you mention it, I HAVE to try the vanilla bean flavor! I bet it is absolutely wonderful!!
I love Turtle Mountain coconut milk ice cream! My favorite flavor is cookie dough with all those chocolate chips and cookie dough pieces. And I like the coconut taste, too.
This is the best ice cream on the market, dairy-free or not. Coconut Milk - Cookie Dough, Mocha Almond Fudge are winners! I can't believe it's dairy free and gluten free. I have tried dulce de leche (caramel) which they need to work on the taste of the caramel, it tastes more like butterscotch than caramel. Overall great concept great taste. Enjoy!
Alexander -- I have to agree! I think it's the creamiest and most delicious ice cream I've ever tasted. I would buy this stuff even if I wasn't allergic to dairy or gluten! ;-) I can't wait to try the dulce de leche!!
Sandy -- I have to admit I like the taste of the coconut too!! ;-) It doesn't bother me one bit! I really do think it tastes better than any "dairy" ice cream I've ever tasted!!
The ice cream bar: almonf chocolate coconut is like Almond Joy in a bar. Awesome! Worth seeking out.
My boys love the Passionate Mango flavor!
fantastic.... try the pomegranate chip and chocolate obsession and coconut. did not realize the cookie dough was gluten free..... leaving now to go to the store!
I am not allergic to any common foods(or rare ones for that matter) but I LOVE THIS STUFF!
The chocolate is like a coco-nutty fudgesicle .
