Heading out of town? GlutenFreeTravelSite.com can help with researching places to eat!

As I mentioned yesterday, it is absolutely necessary for those doing any sort of food elimination diet to do our homework before we try to eat out at a new restaurant.  Of course, this makes traveling to a new and unfamiliar city particularly daunting.

That's where GlutenFreeTravelSite.com comes in. A searchable website with restaurants, hotels, cruises, resorts and grocery stores that have gluten-free foods available.  The site is set up to accomodate entries from all over the world in a review-based format.  Instead of just giving us a list of names and addresses, we get real user reviews of places to eat everywhere! This is the "Yelp" for Gluten-Free foodies.

One particular perque about the Gluten Free Travel Site is that it offers a wider array of options, as well as more listings than the general chain restaurants. (Is anybody else sick of eating at Outback?)  The "hidden" spots and treats that are tucked away are included for adventurous gluten-free foodies!  I particularly like that grocery stores are listed, as I tend to pack a cooler when I travel to ensure that I can enjoy my travels without feeling sick.

Karen Broussard, the Founder and President of GlutenFreeTravelSite.com started the site as an answer to her own frustrations as a traveler and a mom. Her son, Ryan, was diagnosed with celiac disease before he turned 2 years old. Now 6, Ryan is her inspiration in providing this valuable service to the gluten-free community.

The site has only been up for 18 months, so the reviews are not as robust as I'm sure they will be soon. While there are only 7 listings in Georgia, there are over 600 independent (non-chain) restaurants listed on the site!

Sign up for a free monthly newsletter to stay in the know, or follow Karen on Twitter at @gftravelsite to get updates on interesting reviews, as well as special requests for reviews to new travel destinations that are currently lacking information. There is also a Gluten Free Travel blog linked to the site, where Karen keeps readers abreast of her own personal experiences, and important news updates.

GF Challenge!  What Atlanta restaurants can you add to the list? I can think of a dozen non-chain spots off the top of my head that I'll be adding.... Let's see if we can get that list of 7 to a list of... say 50 different locations? Can we do it? I think so! Come on! I dare you!
