The director of the World Food Programme, Josette Sheeran, released a statement today about the food security summit in New York. The summit was chaired by Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and UN Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon.
At this event Secretary Clinton spoke about the U.S. plan to commit at least 3.5 billion over the next 3 years to help boost food production worldwide. Clinton also emphasized the need for improving coordination at all levels in the fight against hunger.
In the United States Congress a bill is pending that would create a White House office to coordinate all U.S. agencies in the fight against hunger. This bill, H.R. 2817, is titled The Roadmap to End Global Hunger.
Here is the full text of Josette Sheeran's statement:
Hunger is on the rise. More than a billion people wake up each day without enough to eat. The threat of continued record high food prices in the developing world and global recession have devastated poor nations and left populations weak and facing severe malnutrition and even starvation.
This food security initiative comes at a critical moment when the world needs to get serious about hunger and malnutrition and their implications for conflict, migration, poverty and disease. The hungry cannot wait. We must act now to meet urgent needs through comprehensive and sustainable solutions.
Secretary Clinton’s commitment to a comprehensive approach that links expanded farm production with the urgent needs of the hungry poor and empowers women and girls needs bold and strong support. We will work in every way to support the success of this initiative and the Secretary General’s leadership on hunger and food security. Together, we can ensure adequate access to sufficient, nutritious food for the poorest and most vulnerable.

Sounds easier then just giving the farmers in Caly water,
they use to feed the world but we shut them off.
Somebody wants the US farmer broke so he can't pay his mortgage or loans and then they foreclose on the land.
Its the American way spend billions, when we have farmers that can out produce any farm in the world!
