Will you listen to the CDC and get your flu shot
or will you let a video change your mind?
Do videos influence our choices? If we view one video, is that enough to sway our opinion? And after the Balloon Boy hoax are we more likely not to believe what we see on a video? Or, is the video below enough proof for you to prevent your family from getting a flu shot?
According to the Center for control of disease and prevention, getting a flu vaccination is the single best way to help prevent influenza.
And while the CDC has statistics to back their statements, there are others who refuse to get vaccinated because they feel they are too dangerous.
While everyone will need to make the choice they feel is best for them, the choice needs to be made wisely: by researching facts and not blindly believing every wild story out there. But what can be believed and what should be dismissed?
The newest story out there is that of Desiree Jennings, who is claiming her recent flu shot caused her to suffer from a neurological disorder.
Before she had her flu shot, Jennings was a Washington Redskins cheerleader: a healthy, active young lady. Allegedly, ten days after getting her flu vaccination Jennings problems began. She was hospitalized for seizures twice and then diagnosed her with Dystonia.
There is no known cure for Dystonia. It is a rare neurological disorder which causes uncontrollable muscle spasms. As the video below shows, Jennings has trouble walking forward but oddly enough, she can run forwards as well as walk backwards. And while she has trouble talking when she is still, or walking, she has no trouble doing so while running.
While the video has some people swearing it is a hoax, others are proclaiming it proof that people should not get flu shots. So far Jennings doctor has stated she has came down with the disorder but there does not seem to be a solid connection that it was positively caused by her getting a flu vaccination.

Won't change my mind - I'm getting both flu shots and so will all my family.
I doubt her illness had a single thing to do with the flu shot but people will fall for it!
No thanx, but I dont want to walk backwards all my life.. that is HORIBBLE!! B******S
my grandma had this disorder.. they for years have been trying to figure out what has caused it. today I called my grandpa and asked him if my grandma had gotten a flu shot that year. sure enough she had. Sadly she has since passed due to medical commplications with this horrible disease.
Just a question for the people who are getting the vaccines: When you get the vaccines and if, god forbid, you do end up with dystonia disorder will you wish you had not gotten them? Or will you stand by your decision of getting them?
found the link - if your Grandma had this it wouldn't have been a swine flu shot anyway. It is a sad thing but there is NO proof there is a connection!
There has been no proof the flu shot caused this! As the author asked, Are you going to let one video make up your mind? For all we know she fell and hit her head the next day - 10 days after the shot she gets a problem I want to know what happened in those 10 days!!!
peter, are you for real? you gotta be kidding me! go do some more research before you write something so irrelevant like this
no vaccines for me or my family!
I doubt very much it is because this was the regualr flu shot and she had one before! I think it is a truely sad story but NOT connected to the flu!
Hey natrula cures I pray you inform each and every person you and your kids come into contact about your choice! And hopefully their school will ban them from attending class and getting others ill!
It is well documented that vaccines of any kind can trigger neurological symptoms. Of course there is a causal effect here. To deny it is delusional. It doesn't mean you shouldn't get your shot if you think preventing the flu is that important. It just means you should know this could happen.
I think it is sad but find it stupid she is trying to blame a flu shot. She got one before without a problem so it is stupid to think that is the cause.
well, with the british media saying that mercury is in the vaccine along with other dubious substances, taht caused gulf war syndrome.....and mercury being a well known poison....i think its highly likely....that this is vaccine iatrogenisis..ie medically caused harm.
I think the last poster should not listen to the press but to the CDC and her doctor! Schools are not letting kids into the classroom that won't get the shot and Dr. don't have to treat those who don't get it - I'm thinking that should say something!
hey
To "found the link"-
My grandma got in a car crash the very same year someone robbed her house and she got shot- does the flu shot cause someone to rob your house and shoot you?
Why did so many believe flu shots were good for them in the first place? My dad is a doctor and explained to me how the dna in the shot must have been very close to her dna which caused her body to attack it. Very sad story because you cannot recover from this (without a miracle). Don't take the flu shot. Sure you might get the flu, big deal, that's better than having all the crap that is in these shots injected into your body. Ask yourself this: Do you really even know what is in these shots? Mercury is one of the deadly ingredients. Steer clear of shots!
To the last poster - this girl already had a flu shot last year so let your Daddy explain how it wasn't the flu shot then! Many people have reactions to all sorts of drugs and shots but really this is just too big of a leap!
ANYTHING you put into your body can be potentially dangerous. Are you going to stop eating because of all the people who come down with food poisoning or diseases related to food? Are you going to stop bathing because of the people who suddenly and inexplicably develop an allergy to WATER?
I doubt this had anything to do with the flu shot, it's most likely entirely coincidental timing. And to the people who say there's a dangerous amount of mercury, do your research... you get more mercury eating fish than you do from vaccines.
"And after the Balloon Boy hoax are we more likely not to believe what we see on a video?"
That was a cheap shot. You are basically suggesting that perhaps this is like the balloon boy hoax and that girl has hoaxed us all. If you are going to write something, do it with logic. Don't try to trick people into having the reaction you want.
If flu shots are too much of a risk for Obama's family, they are for me as well. He won't get his daughters vaccinated.
I think it is a hoax - there is no connection with this girl's disorder and the flu shot. So zinglook it is a hoax just like balloon boy - we are looking at videos that try to make us believe something that isn't true!
JJ don't be an idiot - ALL of the Obama family got shots! michele said so - quit making crap up about the President
Sorry for what has happen to you but it isn't because of the flu so why say it is? I got a broken foot 4 days after getting mine and that is no more connected than your disorder!
Just because she got a flu shot last year doesn't mean the one she got this year was the same stuff. They make new ones every year, you don't get exactly the same mix of hazardous material every time. How is anyone going to prove it was the shot? How is anyone going to prove it wasn't the shot? Ya'll need to calm down, do your research, get the shot if you want and don't if you are scared, simple as that. It's not for everyone anymore than anything else is for everyone. WAKE UP!!!
Fake!!! 100% fake!!!
Any physician should be able to spot this as fake. Her movements do not correspond to a neurologic pattern, she makes sure there is no chance of falling and she adjusts her hair while flailing. It's called hysterical illness. There is treatment for it, but confronting the patient directly may make them worse.
Funny we haven't heard any follow ups on her. I wonder what they would show???
