'Eclipse' star Bryce Dallas Howard was first choice for Twilight too - video

If you are a Twilight fan you probably associate Rachelle Lefevre with the character Victoria. When you think of the villainous vampire you can’t imagine anyone other than her in the role. Many fans consider the casting of Lefevre to be spot on.

Thing is Lefevre wasn’t the first choice to play Victoria: Bryce Dallas Howard was. According to Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke, Dallas Howard was approached to play the part of Victoria but she felt the part was too small, and turned it down.

Hardwicke then cast Lefevre who played Victoria in both Twilight and New Moon. Lefevre was excited to continue her part in Eclipse, where Victoria’s role is expanded. But then the real drama began!

Summit Entertainment sent out a press release announcing that Rachelle Lefevre would no longer be playing the role of Victoria and that they had recast the part with no other than Bryce Dallas Howard.

Lefevre claims the recasting was a surprise to her and publically gave a statement about being replaced as Victoria where she put all the blame on Summit. In her statement, Lefevre brought up the fact that “Summit picked up my option for ‘Eclipse” and while she was “fully prepared to continue to honor it. Summit chose simply to recast the part.”

Summit Entertainment didn’t agree with Lefevre’s statement and published  a response, explaining their re-casting of Victoria for Eclipse. Summit’s states the Lefevre’s, “decision to discuss her version of the scheduling challenges publicly has forced the Studio to set the record straight and correct the facts” which they do with a detailed bulleted list.  

Both sides gave their take on things and the issue took a backseat to other Twilight drama. That is until Hardwicke leaked out the fact that Bryce Dallas Howard was their first choice all along, and new questions surfaced.

Does this leaked information give merit to Lefevre’s thinking that there was more to her being replaced than the 10 day scheduling conflict?  

Did Summit use Lefevre’s schedule as a way to reconnect with Dallas Howard - using the fact that Victoria’s role is larger in Eclipse and that the franchise is so popular to sway Dallas Howard to sign on for a role she once turned down??

Or, was Summit forced into finding a replacement for Lefevre and simply lucked into signing Bryce Dallas Howard who just happened to have been their original choice?
