Protesting the travelin' mongers of hate

Westboro Baptist Church at their hating best

In the weird but sadly true category, Fred “god hates fags” Phelps, everyone's favorite hate monger is coming to town. Guess which of the following groups he's protesting:

St Patrick's Cathedral, seat of New York Catholicism

92Y

The United Nations

Brooklyn Technical High School

East Midwood Jewish Center

Can you guess? Can you? Huh?

ALL of them.

In a typical move that would be hilarious if it weren't so potentially dangerous as well as pathetic, WBC is headed to NYC in order to spread their gospel of equal –if confusing-hate for all.

Their protest schedule is well known for being more about ambition and publicity than actual protests (good luck getting from Tribeca to Fort Greene in 15 minutes there Westborians) but Phelps experts maintain that church members usually show up at least some of the targets in any given geographical stop.

The Brooklyn Technical High School stop seems to be motivated by BTSH's Community of Inclusion, and a counter protest initiated by the school's students, is being planned there for 3 PM on September 24. The known details are posted below. The kids say “We must not let the WBC profess their messages of hatred and fear at the gate of Tech's Greatness.”

I don't think we can keep the Westborians from standing for their own bizarre and random brand of hate, but we can stand with the students.

STAND AGAINST HATE WITH THE STUDENTS OF BTHS

Thursday, September 24 @ 3 PM

Brooklyn Technical High School

29 Fort Greene Place, BK

The students get out at 2.45, keep an eye on their facebook event page for updates.
