Popular dance (and pretty gay) radio station Energy 92.7 was sold not too long ago and listening to the station, you couldn’t even tell. Yet.

While everyone there has been hush hush about what the ownership change will mean to the station’s format and its personalities, it seems that any changes might be occurring as soon as September 13.
It’s natural that the new owner will want to put their own stamp on it, but Energy has become very popular ever since it hit the airwaves in 2004 with its current “pure dance” formula.
Listening to the station is almost like being in a club with their cool DJs and interesting show segments. From the Clubbers Commute to the Mix at 6, one always feels their on the cutting edge of dance music. This is further enhanced by the station’s great partnership with its advertisers who cater to the station’s demographic. So any time while driving around town, you feel as if you’re in a cool club like Infusion Lounge or Wunderland instead of really just on your way to the video store. True though at some point when listening to songs in heavy rotation you’re minding you’re not dancing the night away, but trapped at a stop light in your beat up Jetta.
And of course there’s the gay aspect. Not only are the gays drawn to the sexy voice of straight DJ Joey V, the voice of Energy, but listeners get their share of diva dance mixes, an all gay-artist Gay Pride Weekend and the fun morning offerings from the station’s popular morning show, Fernando and Greg.
With the two are bickering at each other like a pair of old queens or drooling over their weekly bartender who comes in on Fridays to make them a cocktail, Fernando and Greg always remind us how gay they and their show can be every time they call each other “girl” or they introduce Greg’s sassy sports segment. It seems more than anyone Fernando and Greg are pimped out to sell the show with their numerous weekly appearances – whether it be to a movie screening or hosting the porn awards, Fernando and/or Greg is there representing the station and their show.
But is this all enough? We will find out soon if Ed Sholtz's Royce International Broadcasting, who purchased the station in July, will just tinker a bit and make the station even better or, alas, make major format changes.
And that would be a pity. There are few places one can discover artists like Guru Josh and David Guetta from their Jetta.
You can listen to Energy 92.7 on your radio’s FM dial or on their website at
www.energy927fm.com. You can also likely find them on Comcast on your TV (audio only) and follow them on Twitter or through Facebook.

hahahaha, energy 92.7 on the cutting edge of dance music? cooooooooome ooooooooon
I woke up to some really crappy music, and thought someone had played with my radio's dial. I've been waking up to F&G for several years now, and mornings aren't going to be the same...
This really sucks!
okay, fernando and greg are hilarious, but yeah...cutting edge dance music? jokes. energy played the corniest 'house' music around.
I'm listening to it right now and I think I have a tear falling from my eye... Ha ha lets see what happens.
Okay, maybe "cutting edge" was too much for me to write. But if you tell me the name of a station that will play dance music I will tune in. Energy was rare and now their replacement kind of rehashes every other station on the airwaves. I tried to listen but I miss the dance beats and the gay banter. I NEED MY E!
So maybe Energy wasn't "cutting edge" with the music 24/7, but they played the kind of music you don't hear anywhere else. They had great DJs, an awesome morning show, and really felt like a local station.
This new stuff sucks already...
the problem with energy is that that they place the cheesiest gay stuff; why not throw in some larry levan? frankie knuckles? patrice rushen? donald byrd? maybe some early 90s piano house? instead it's the same cheesy david guetta stuff you expect to hear at terrible clubs like ruby skye all the time.
it's a moot point now though
Got something to say?
