Blush for beginners

Gitana Beverly Hills

I work with this woman who is always well put together and her makeup is always flawless. I always wondered why her cheeks look so pronounced until I figured out that she wears blush. I want to ask her how to apply blush but she seems so unapproachable. I am an Asian woman in my early thirties with an olive skin tone who has never worn blush. What do you recommend and how should I apply it? Fumi - Olney, MD.

For blush beginners I recommend “Blush Sticks”. It’s an easy swipe across the top of your cheek bone, blend with a flat blush brush in a cheek to temple motion and your fabulous. Remember to always give a great smile when applying blush to avoid applying your blush too close to your nose. You want the blush right on the apple of your cheeks up not the opposite. Until you are skilled in the technique for applying blush stay away from powder or pressed blush. Sometimes when using powder or pressed blush you can apply too much and that can be a disaster if you don‘t know the technique to correct the mishap.

For olive skin tones I recommend three blush colors: 1.Orange, 2.Peach 3.Soft Pink. There are two makeup brushes that I highly recommend for a flawless blend: 1.187 Duo Fibre Brush, MAC 2.Flat Top Blush Brush, Sonia Kashuk (Target).
