Genghiscon XXXI

genghiscon XXXI

Genghiscon XXXI starts February 11, 2010. Denver’s largest gaming convention boasts over 250 games, a miniature painting convention and four fun filled days of gaming run by the Denver Gamers Association. Preregistration is open now at denvergamers.org.

This year they have moved to a new hotel, Red Lion Hotel at I225 & Parker Rd in Aurora. Take note Denver gamers that the convention has moved down the road a bit. For the past several years it had been held at the Four Points Sheridan at I25 & Hampton. But with econmic changes the the convention was forced to move.

Denver Gamers Association has been running Genghiscon in various forms for over 30 years. They convention has featured card games, video games, artists, tournaments and premier RPGs. This year the convention is featuring Sean K Reynolds, one of the creative minds behind Paizo’s Pathfinder Chronicles. The living game that uses D&D 3.75 as it’s base has a growing fan base in Denver with several of the adventures run at Vahalla’s and Enchanted Grounds. He’ll be running and playing rpgs at the convention.

This year is the return of the miniature painting convention. Not just a small convention within a convention but also features everything in miniature figure painting. The event includes painting classes from beginner to advanced. The painting competition features figures from artists all around the United States. Even the beginner can enter a figure and get some tips on perfecting their art.

For those with children Genghiscon offers Con Jr. This runs Friday through Sunday during the conventions official hours. Kids can game, watch movies and go swimming while the parents are playing games elsewhere. Saturday night features a pajama party with popcorn and glow sticks.

The Denver Gamers Association is always looking for volunteers. For the last few year they have been lacking anyone to run card games or video games for the convention. There is a wide demand in the Denver area for both these games and the DGA really need help in this area. They need coordinators for causal games and tournaments every year.

If you can’t come in February, the Denver Gamers Association also runs Tacticon over Labor Day weekend. This is also a four day convention but usually features a few less games across all categories except board games.

The Denver Gamers Association can be reached through their website at denvergamers.org or on Facebook!
