Nine country inns and B&Bs and a number of other businesses in the southwest corner of New Hampshire have joined together for the fifth annual Currier and Ives Cookie Tour of the region. Home of Mount Monadnock, the most climbed mountain in the country, the region is famed for its verdant rural nature and its beautiful towns clustered around their central commons.

Special Cookie Tour packages and deals
Four of the inns are offering special rates or packages in conjunction with the Cookie Tour. These packages make it easier to make this an opportunity to getaway for a pre or ‘tween holiday escape. In the Jaffrey-Peterborough area the Little River Bed & Breakfast, in Peterborough, package includes lodging, breakfast, two Cookie Tour tickets and two Little River coffee mugs. Their rate is $119 for one night, double occupancy and $179 for two nights. The Benjamin Prescott Inn in Jaffrey is offering a special rate of $100 per night for their best available room and the Granview Inn and Resort, Jaffrey is offering 50% off Regular room rates with the purchase of a Cookie Tour ticket. On Route 32 in Swanzey Inn of the Tartan Fox has a Cookie Tour Package that includes lodging, Cookie Tour tickets, and a collectible Christmas cookie tin to gather the goodies. Their rates vary from $110 to $130.

B&Bs and inns offer a wide range of lodging experiences
You might also want to contact the other inns and B&Bs in the program. This is a good opportunity to get to know this fascinating and lesser known part of New Hampshire. Each inn is different but the ambiance is casual and friendly. For example, the Woodbound Inn in Rindge sits on an unspoiled pond but The Monadnock Inn in Jaffrey sits in the midst of a true country village, white steepled church and all, and has a good restaurant for dinner. The Inn at East Hill Farm in Troy is an active farm but has more of a laid back resort feel to it. The Fitzwilliam Inn is a classic early 19th century inn located on the town common of Fitzwilliam which many believe to be one of the most beautiful villages in New England. The Bridges Inn at Whitcomb House in West Swanzey sits on a hillside overlooking the historic Thompson covered bridge.

Things to do in fall in the Monadnock Region
This section of New Hampshire is a mecca for people who love to shop small stores. Depot Square in Peterborough is known for the wide range of shops from clothing to fine gifts. On School Street look for Alice Blue Antiques which, in addition to unusual antiques, also carried fine European and American fabrics. In Jaffrey, be sure to stop in the main town, a couple miles south of the Monadnock Inn. There are some fascinating shops and Sunflower Café is a great place to stop for lunch. The nearby city of Keene also offers many options for activities as well. The Hannah Grimes store on Main Street offers fine hand crafted items and local products and visitors will also find many other shops nearby. But then, if the outdoors is what you yearn for there is always Mount Monadnock to climb, beautiful country roads to bicycle and walking trails in Keene and Peterborough to explore. There's lots to do in the Monadnock Region.
