Holiday cheer means different things to different people. It might mean putting up the Christmas tree—a tradition that legend says began in Germany. Or it might mean getting something Tokio Hotelish for the kids. But in Germany, according to The Local, the Christmas season doesn’t officially begin until Wham! that boy band of the 80’s sings. More exactly, when Wham!’s song, Last Christmas is aired, people herald the season in in a way that only Germans can.

The song has become a running gag.
He also admitted that it’s a best-selling single, but has never been number one on the charts.
People consistently request the song that marked the pre-George Michael days of George Michael’s career. The days when he still had Andrew Ridgeley and the singing duo thing to think about.
Wanna Be’s
Singers the likes of Frank Sinatra are on the decline in Germany in terms of Christmas fare. But there’s just something about that catchy tune that Germans warm to. It’s not about Santa Claus; it’s about emotional attachment. And that is something, according to The Local with which every music listener can identify.
It has spawned a number of imitations from Coldplay to N’Sync. But the Germans? They prefer the cheesy 80’s version, according to the report.
