The Local is reporting that for the first time in the 65 years since the end of the Holocaust, German and Israeli cabinet members are scheduled to meet in Berlin. Among the visitors will be Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanjahu and six other ministers. Included in that group will be Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman and Defence Minister Ehud Barak.

The Prime Minister will meet with German Chancellor Angela Merkel to discuss Iran’s nuclear program and the Middle East peace process, which is at a standstill at the moment.

Would you like to be able to read everything you want to about the peace process and the aftermath of National Socialism in Germany, but can't because much of the information is written in German?

Well, I studied German and speak in fluently. I will write stories about the trial and will report on information that’s written German as well as English. An Historic Meeting

The meeting follows a similar meeting, which was held last year in Israel. German Ministers traveled to Israel and the cabinets of the two countries made agreements to strengthen cooperation on the military, political, cultural and economic fronts. It'll be the first time that the two cabinets have meet together on German soil. The economy, environment and scientific research top off the list of topics for the meeting in Germany. The cabinets also plan to discuss co-operating on giving aid for African development.

In addition to the party schedule to arrive in Berlin, Israeli Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle visited Germany last week. It was the Foreign Minister’s first trip. He encouraged the Israelis and the Palestinians to resume peace talks.

Germany has already lent a hand to Israel in Israeli/ Palestinian discussion and diplomacy. Germany took part in talks to free Gilad Schalit, an Israeli soldier, who the Palestinians took hostage in 2006. A formal thank you from Netanjahu to Germany is expected for Germany’s role in mediating the prisoner swap.

A Visit to the Holocaust Memorial

The Chancellor and the Prime Minister also plan on visiting the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe in Berlin. The memorial commemorates the estimated 6 million Jews who were killed during the war by the Nazis.
