In a recent poll of British film fans by LoveFilm.com, the UK DVD rental service, Gerard Butler was selected as the year's Best British Actor in Hollywood. The 40-year-old Butler, star of 300 and Law Abiding Citizen, beat out Christian Bale and Daniel Day-Lewis for the title.
James McAvoy came fifth while Twilight star Robert Pattinson placed seventh.
Jason Statham took the eight spot and Ewan McGregor came in ninth.
Helen Cowley, the editor at LoveFilm, believes “the poll shows that Butler and Bale have got some real bite in Hollywood.”
“And even though Robert Pattinson is getting some deserved attention, it’s the older generation of actors that still have sway in Hollywood,” she added.
Oscar winner Kate Winslet landed the fourth spot, joining Emily Blunt as the only two women in the top ten.
Butler starred in three films in 2009, The Ugly Truth, Gamer and the recently released Law Abiding Citizen. 2010 will see him in How To Train Your Dragon and The Bounty.
He will being filming Coriolanus, actor Ralph Fiennes' directorial debut, in March 2010.

Some pretty impressive peers in the mix. Where is Kiera Knightley? (sp?) Good grief, she should be there. Congrats to Gerry (yet again)... he's making quite an impression! I believe he carries a huge fan base! Quite the year for GB! ;-)
Congratulations Gerry - I am glad you are finally getting the recognition you deserve. Gerry is the best actor to come around in a long time. He reminds you of actors in the 40's. Finally a manly man with a heart....
