Scottish entertainers Gerard Butler and Susan Boyle are the top two contenders for the 2009 Scot of the Year competition, sponsored by ScotsCare, a charity that provides help and advice to Scots in London.
Butler was nominated for his continued success in the world of acting. He joins other notable Scottish actors Sean Connery and Ewan McGregor who have made their mark on Hollywood. His most current release, Law Abiding Citizen, co-starred Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx.
Boyle was nominated for her music accomplishments since taking the world by storm on the UK television competition, Britain's Got Talent.
Joining the two in the poll are Andy Robinson (rugby coach), Andy Murray (tennis ace), Michael Martin (politician), Carol Ann Duffy (poet laureate), Chris Hoy, Gordon Brown (British Prime Minister), Mohamed al Fayed (president of an independent Scotland hopeful) and Robert Burns (Scottish legend).
ScotsCare's chief executive Willie Docherty said: "We have a diverse range of contenders for this year's Scot of the Year title."

I am sorry to tell that I hope Gerry doesn't get this award... for this year is Susan Boyle's. I am afraid next year she will be forgotten, but Gerard will still be going to the top!
