Green celebrity George Clooney says he has stopped giving interviews. Why has the Hollywood star grown increasingly more reclusive? Here are his reasons and why fans think he should start talking again.

GEORGE CLOONEY SAYS HE DOES NOT LIKE TO GIVE INTERVIEWS ANYMORE -- HERE'S WHY

2009 has been the year of spotting celebrity George Clooney on the red carpet with new girlfriend Elisabetta Canalis. He's also made the rounds to all the Fall film festivals in the world and sat on panels with co-stars, producers, and directors.

As such, we've heard a great deal about his personal opinion on his films -- but has anyone notices Clooney has been incredibly quiet about his social life?

The answer to the question of why George Clooney has almost entirely stopped giving one on one interviews in 2009 is a simple one.

The talented actor says he is sick and tired of sitting down to talk with press about his latest films and being grilled about his personal life.

He's even uttered some expletives and sullied the name of at least one country who sent a tabloid reporter (rather than a journalist) to question him.

Clooney told Britain's Empire magazine, "I don't mind the stories in gossip magazines, but I worry when they bleed into legitimate interviews..." He added, "That's been happening a lot recently."

The Hollywood Icon says the celebrity interviews do nothing to promote his unique films, and gives the impression that he believes people follow his work simply because the roles he chooses to play are good.

His theory is flawed, however, if he hopes to continue to build followers in the coming years (rather than simply resting on past laurels).

Here's why.

What the star fails to realize, however, is that fans go to see films because they love the actors and actresses that are in them personally.

The greatest Hollywood motion picture of all time could be created, but won't draw the same crowd as a mediocre film with a big name star if the picture fails to include a celebrity figure everyone knows personally and loves.

As such, it is thanks to the tabloids that so many of Hollywood's elite stars who are eco-friendly and are good role models have done so well with the movie-goer crowd.

Media outlets who make celebrities seem more human and endearing (or wilder that they actually are) help build recognition and star power.

Although many will go to see films with stars who have reputations for being naughty personally -- if they are great on camera and engaging, people will flock to see their pictures.

In the case of Clooney, it is his everyday charm, sense of wit, and enigmatic character that makes fans love him so much. Knowing more about the actor personally makes us all identify with him more on and off the screen -- and as such, any personal life interviews he gives help him tend to cultivating a loyal fan base and ticket buying following.

That's why we think he should reconsider the value of answering personal questions during interviews.

We also have a suggestion for the star --

If he's as clever as we think he is, the celeb could make his own video interviews and post them on his own channel at his discretion on YouTube.

As a member of the (non-tabloid) media, I can see George Clooney's point about why he wants to do less interviews, but I think it's unrealistic for him to expect the media to not ask questions about his personal life when he always parades his latest girlfriends on the red carpet and at other public events.

There are some celebrity couples who don't have their significant others on the red carpet because they don't want the media attention to be focused on their love lives. (For example, Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin don't do the red carpet together. Neither do Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel.)

On the other hand, celebrities have the right to be selective in which interviews they give. So my advice to George Clooney would be this: Be more private and don't bring your current main squeeze with you on the red carpet or other public events where you know there will a lot of media scrutiny. And only do interviews with the few media outlets that won't ask about your love life.
