Getting started in geocaching can be overwhelming because it seems everyone is speaking another language. In order to say what you mean in a nano’s logbook, the use of acronyms is more precise. Here are some commonly used terms and their definitions:
TFTC = thanks for the cache
TFTH = thanks for the hunt/hide
TNLNSL = took nothing, left nothing, signed log. Also can be written TNSL.
FTF = first person to find the cache
DNF = did not find
BYOP = bring your own pencil/pen
SWAG = stuff we all get. More commonly known as the cache contents or sometimes can mean special giveaway items at geocacher events.
CITO = cache in, trash out. Often in terms of an CITO event where cachers help clean up the caching areas by picking up trash.
Muggle = a non-geocacher. Named after the Harry Potter book reference non-magical people, muggles are ordinary folk who may get curious as to why you’re poking about in the bushes.
Hitchhiker = travel bug or geocoin
There are many more definitions and acronyms listed on geocaching.com but this handful will get you by in Calgary caching. TFTR! (thanks for the read!)

Comments
Thanks for writing this, we set up our first geocache last weekend and I wasn't sure what people were leaving in the comments!
You're very welcome, Denise! It took me a long while to figure it out, too. TFTC, what the heck?!?!? Now, I am loathe to write it out. Best of luck with the caching!
