Geocacher name: Trailguider
Real name: Will remain a mystery.
Lives in: Calgary NW
Type of GPS unit I use: Colorado
I’ve been geocaching since: July 2007
Favourite cache in the last 60 days: GC26MGF - Springbank Red Mystery I did a number of One Bad Ants in Springbank and they were all delightful for a family. There were a series of four caches in the park that this easy mystery cache was located in. I would recommend these caches for anyone but especially beginners.
Favourite find: GC23FTF – 12 Mile Series (1-5) by bananbotdan. This is the first hide for this cacher and I am definitely looking forward to more of them. This cache was a very interesting cache with a nice walk. It had a lot of interesting elements that I’m sure kids of all ages would enjoy. I don’t want to say more except have fun!
Favourite cache I’ve hidden: GC1COXM Tall bush Small Bushes. This is an easy cache in a very nice valley. I love the walk.
I usually cache with my: My geodog Lucy. If you’re on the trail and you see a black and white Shitzu often sitting on top of a backpack, I will be around somewhere looking for a cache. I also cache with a spouse, children and friends, whoever I can talk into coming. But Lucy is the most dependable. She is always ready to go.
I’ve logged caches in: Vancouver, the Okanogan, Nelson, Lethbridge, Winnipeg and various points in between.
The most difficult cache I’ve ever logged: There have been a number of these. Some because I was blind and had to go back several times, others because it was physically demanding. The latest that I remember was – GC17ODE A Nano in a Tree in a Forest on a Mountain by j2d2. New caches have been hidden in this area and there is good advice on how to bushwhack to these caches. All I can say is don’t take Sleepy Hollows cut line. And then I get up there and I have to find a Nano in a tree in a forest with a very bouncy GPS. That was fun!
Most unusual place I’ve found a geocache: In plain site in front of a 7-11. I won’t tell you where or how.
Most unusual container I’ve found: Check out the peanutbutterbreadandjam caches in Airdie. Many of these are different!
A funny thing happened on the way to the cache: My latest story happened in Tuscany at a new cache Jump and a Stump GC28NZG by canuckzilla. Well this was a nice little park between houses so what danger could there be really. As I Jump over the stream Lucy doesn’t want to go the same way I do so I drop her leash so she can do it her way. I turn around after crossing the stream an there is a porcupine at the base of a bush. Lucy spotted it at the same time and decided to try to poke her nose in it. Panic attack! I’m screaming Lucy is running and the porcupine has had enough of this and climbs up into the bush high enough that Lucy can’t reach it. Thank goodness.
The best thing about geocaching is: The walk.
