Geocacher name: kophykupp
Real name: Sandra
Lives in: NW Calgary
Type of GPS unit I use: Garmin 60csx (maps? we don't need no stinkin' maps!)
I’ve been geocaching since: July 2005

I usually cache with myself. My partner prefers golf and I appreciate the time alone. However, I have enjoyed several group hikes as I'm big on socializing. I like to take my cell phone, extra batteries, first aid kit and flashlight, however I have been known to forget these items in the car. On those days, I've also been known to forget where I put my car.

The best thing about geocaching is
that it requires absolutely no commitment.I can do it anytime, anywhere, or not. If I'm bored or just needing some fresh air, there is always a cache nearby. If I need alone time, I can take a drive or a long walk in the woods. If I'm wanting to socialize, there are plenty of opportunities to get together and share stories, or spend a day caching with a group.

My favourite find of the last 60 days is A Lusk Mystery, GC1MEPC by BVPete. I've never actually met a BVPete cache that I didn't like. Tough hike, but extremely rewarding, and it came with a "bonus find". hehe...intrigued?

We are fortunate to have many very creative people in our geocaching community. I eagerly check my email each morning in the hopes that there just might be a new Bullmoose_rocks puzzle or BVPete hide. peanutbutterbreadandjam is known for his "obnoxious" caches; truly brilliant hides that force you to problem solve, and I would be remiss if I didn't mention his 10lbs of sheet in a 5lb bag, GC275PJ - the boldness of this hide will cause you to rethink your next locknlock container under a pile of sticks.

The most difficult cache I’ve ever logged was CanadianRockies' The Lost Symbo, GC21YFJ. I am a huge fan of puzzles and this is the granddaddy of all puzzle caches. It is not for the light of heart. It is themed after a certain Dan Brown novel and is in itself a course in cryptography. It was published a few days before Christmas 2009 and it ruled my life for five weeks. I doubt it can be topped.

Mostly, I love how supportive this community can be of one another. Different people, with different interests and one shared passion.

I'm not a great cache hider yet, but I hope to improve. Most of my caches are puzzles with very few finders. I have hidden a cache in Prince's Island Park as part of the Calgary Parks 100 project, and it has well over 100 finds to date. I have enjoyed reading the logs from new cachers, and those who are visiting from out of town.
