Get ready for the most anticipated geocaching event of the summer on Saturday, August 28th! The Calgary Cache and Release 2010, or CCARS10 for short, is the ultimate find and seek 24-hour day of geocaching adventure. This event is staged in two parts with some optional fun events thrown in:

• The CCARS Kickoff, GC2BVWD in Scenic Acres from 10-11 a.m. This will be a time to meet and greet fellows cachers, pick up a flag for your car, get some final tips on solving those tricky puzzle caches and gearing up for the day’s festivities. PDF spreadsheets for judging the caches will be available at this time.  RSVP to the cache log so they can save you a donut or two.

• At noon, position yourself at your favourite CCARS10 cache. These caches can are noted by the CCARS10 listed in the cache title. Search on www.geocaching.com under the tab “Hide & Seek a Cache” using this search term. If you are a premium member, create a bookmark list on or after 6 p.m. on August 26th. Remember, any caches found/logged before noon on the 28th will be excluded from the contest. Quickly log and rate as many CCARS10 geocaches as you can!

CCARS10 – Midnight, GC2C8K8. Yes, you heard me right. No 24-hour marathon of geocaching would be complete without having to rally the troops for a little late night fun, prize-winning and cache finding. Check out this cache description to enter photo contest called “Who the Heck is TommiPotx?” The photo contest is open for submissions now.

  • For those early birds or cachers in the Airdrie area fuel up with a hearty breakfast at Smitty's on Sunday morning from 7-8 a.m.  Aptly named CCARS10 Do You Like Green Egg and Ham?, GC2CJQ3 plays on the Dr. Seuess-themed caches that will a part of the event finds.

CCARS10 Finale, GC28YCD. At noon on Sunday, August 29th, head over to Nick’s Steak House on Crowchild Trail NW with the kids and your caching team to wrap up the event with a bite to eat. Vote for your favourite type of caches from rainbow-coloured caches to Mike Holmes-type of caches that need to be opened with a special tool (complete details are listed here). Win prizes, collapse from exhaustion and party with fellow marathon cachers to celebrate the finale of CCARS10!

Even if you don’t participate in every event, look forward to some great new caches being placed around the city. Have fun and carpe (the Dr. Seuss) cache!

I think the Breakfast is on the Sunday morning, not the Saturday morning. I believe the kickoff event is the first event. Great roundup.

Thanks Geoff! Now corrected. I appreciate your comments. I've never been to a CCARS event myself, so the research was as much for me as anybody.
