It was another great evening at Ricky’s Restaurant in North Hill Mall where the geocachers took up all the upper level. Most of the group had attended GeoWoodStock VIII mega-event held recently in Seattle, Washington. How did they arrive? By convoy!
Convoy was an initiative to travel as a Calgary-Area Caching group down to the mega-event. Cachers registered a cartoon facsimile of their vehicle with Peanutbutterbreadandjam and hit the road. Some of the most experienced cachers in Calgary collected caches along the road and represented our city well. The night was to celebrate their stories.
Also in celebration were many geocachers achieving major milestones. Most notable was Sleepy Hollow’s 10,000th cache find with a chocolate cake to celebrate (see photo). Although Sleepy Hollow was sorely not in attendance, his cake was enjoyed by all. Other celebrants included Tethys C with 1200 finds, Hedgehog's Spoon with 300 finds, C-Side Girl with 500 finds and 1000 finds for Grey Wolfe. New geocachers rounded out the party quite nicely with tales of hard caches and favourite containers.
The most anticipated topic of discussion was the upcoming CCARS Kick Off, GC2BVWD for the Calgary Cache and Release day of speed-geocaching happening Saturday, August 28th and finishing at noon, Sunday, August 29th at GC28YCD with prizes and swag.
Hope to see you there! Carpe cache this long weekend….
