Brad Pitt, mayor of N.O.? Why he would be a 'real' Generation X candidate

Brad Pitt, New Orleans

There is quite a buzz around the Internet about Brad Pitt running for mayor of New Orleans. To most of America it seems absurd, but to Generation X and a lot of New Orleanians it should make good sense. There are the facts; the first thing that would prohibit his candidacy is his residency status. New Orleans requires that all candidates be residents for five years, Mr. Pitt has only owned his quaint French Quarter mansion since 2007. But if Mayor Bloomberg of New York City can convince that great city to extend his term limit restriction, surely residency status does not have to be an obstacle in Brad’s political aspirations.

The hum began with actual polling done by a professor on the feasibility of Mr. Pitt running and winning the mayoral election in NOLA and an article written in conjunction with it.

www.storyvilletimes.com/2009/05/brad-pitt-for-mayor.php Dr. Thomas Bayer, a Tulane University professor in the History Department and Elizabeth Harvey of Storyville, www.wearyourstory.com/ , a New Orleans T-Shirt shop in Uptown, teamed up and shirts were created. Obama did it in 2008, maybe Brad can use mass marketing and media to clinch a win in 2010! The difference in the execution of office would be the lifetimes of experience, one politics and one Hollywood. The standard bearer of celebrity politicians was the late Ronald Reagan, as he was to his generation perhaps Brad Pitt can be for Generation X.

When asked on the Today Show about running, after countless denials, Mr. Pitt responded by saying, “Yeah, I’m running on the Gay marriage, no religion, legalization and taxation of marijuana,” of the issue he states at the end, “I don’t have a chance!” But I beg to disagree with you Mr. Pitt. Brad Pitt would be a genuine Generation X candidate because of his platform. Where Barrack Obama practiced political expediency during his campaign and his subsequent performance in office, Brad Pitt has already alienated most his opponents’ mud-slinging and various other political tactics used during this past year’s Presidential elections. We already know so much about Brad Pitt through paparazzi and tabloid media, and of what we don’t know, what could surprise us now. Pitt for mayor is actually a great choice; already he’s created the greenest neighborhood in the United States with just 15 houses. Imagine what he could do for the city!

Dr. Thomas Bayer has started an online petition to show support of his grassroots effort for Brad Pitt to run for mayor, he intends to print out the petition and send it to Pitt in hopes to encourage him to throw his hat into the Mayoral election ring.
