In a related National Generation X Examiner article, it was written that Jillian Michaels of “The Biggest Loser” TV show was auctioning her motorcycle on eBay for Haiti. The auction ended on Monday January 25th and all proceeds will be sent to the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund.
The final bid for Jillian Michaels customized Yamaha FZ1 was $17,400.00. 36 bidders placed 91 bids on the motorcycle. The winner also gets an autographed motorcycle helmet from Michaels. Michaels decided to part with her beloved Yamaha FZ1 after learning of the devastation in Haiti that was caused by a massive earthquake. When Michaels was 28, she visited Haiti for 3 weeks and found the country to be full of loving and generous people. She felt it was a life changing experience for her.
Jillian Michaels is just one of many Gen X celebrities who have gone above and beyond to help the victims of the Haitian earthquake. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie donated $1 million dollars and just recently Jennifer Aniston donated $500,000.00 to help Haiti. Alyssa Milano donated $50,000.00 and challenged corporations to match her contribution. Sandra Bullock donated $1 million to help and made it clear that she donated that much because she could and that she understands that some folks can't afford to donate at all. Many Gen X celebrities showed up to help in George Clooney’s “Hope for Haiti Now” telethon. Matt Damon, Julia Roberts, Nicole Kidman, Leonardo DiCaprio and so many others took the time to take peoples calls to help raise funds. They have raised $61 million and counting!
Most everyday Gen Xers have stepped up to donate their money, blood or time to help out our Haitian neighbors. Though the official search for survivors has been called off in Haiti, a man was pulled from the rubble after 11 days, which has given hope to others that their family member may still be rescued. Haiti will need help for years to come in order to rebuild all that was lost, and to rebuild it in a much safer manner. Great article!
Thanks Sherri!
That's great that these Gen X celebrities are donating all this money. I hope it will get to those who need it and it won't get caught in the hands of the corrupt politicians over there.
